Reposted from @landlandcolportage I’m pretty stoked to show y’all our latest tour poster for the great AMOS LEE, whose tour of the southern states starts on Monday down in Charleston. Head over to @am0slee’s thing for the specifics on that, because it’s going to rule. It snowed here last night, so running around the South sounds pretty fun right now. 🗺 Jes & I worked on these in our weirdo now-traditional way, where I sketched the thing out (analog, with pencils or whatever), and once all my linework was pinned down, I sent it over to her so she could work on doing gouache & watercolor paintings for the color (again, analog, with—I’m presuming—little paint dishes and color swatch chunks strewn all over and many cats messing with all of it). 🚁 While she’s doing that, I’m transferring that same sketch to a sheet of wonderful @ampersand_art clayboard & digging into all the final linework, scratching and scritching into my inked lines to both carve out highlights & texture, and also to fix over-caffeinated mistakes. 🛟 Once we’re both done with our respective parts, we merge those duders together and survey what kind of finishing touches to put on it…usually that’s just cleaning up a little bit of weirdness from trying to line everything back up, and then some color adjustments and pulling out color details here and there…that’s all done digitally, and we actually passed this one back and forth a couple times to get it wrapped up (and to accommodate for my admittedly bizarre sleep schedule). ⛽️ Anyway, here’s the thing, and swipe through to see some of the earlier stages of this thing, if you’re into sketches and process or whatever. And follow my buddy @_jseamans on here if you aren’t already, because she’s seriously the best. 🛸 Oh, and burying the lede a little here, but this is one of the last couple poster projects we have going on for the year before we pack up our whole studio and move it to a new, undisclosed location. I might post some stuff about that once it’s happening, but in the meantime, send me some good vibes to calm my nerves on this, cause some of what’s involved is gonna be a bit stressful 🫠 lol. Reposted from @landlandcolportage Hands down, @am0slee is one of my all time favorite people to make posters for, and I very recently got to do this one for his last leg of summer shows this year. 🕰 It’s a six-color screenprint, drawn & printed by hand, and they’ll be available at his shows while they last (we’ll have a few later too). 📚 I should also mention—if it’s not already pretty clear—that I’m really into hand-drawing a ton of tour dates on these things…I usually don’t really have a specific typeface in mind when I’m doing it (though I’d be curious to hear from the true typography heads which ones I might’ve cobbled and cryptomnesia’d this from…I look at a LOT of typography). It takes FOREVER to draw that stuff by hand, but it’s hugely meditative and relaxing (as long as I’m spelling everything the right way). I totally recommend it for people who are into that sort of thing. 📚 Anyway, this tour covers a lot of ground in not a whole lot of time and it starts in a couple days…go see @am0slee if you can.
