Unbiased field testing #sharkrepellant for the local swim club. Many of these repellants are designed on the known physiological sensory systems sharks have, the Ampullae of Lorenzini, which in addition the the magnetic sensing capabilities of the Lateral line, allows sharks to detect minute electrical currents which they use to aid them in distinguishing injured, sick, or dying animals from healthy strong ones. Sharks are the white blood cells of the ocean and by picking off the weak or injured they leave the strongest and fittest to survive ensuring healthier and stronger individuals are left to reproduce #darwinstheory #galapagos . It may also aid in their ability to do long migrations, some transoceanic returning to the same point several years later. What many of these devices have failed to consider is that for most species this incredible sensory organ only works within 6 feet *for most, but not all species & also depends on the intensity of the electrical or magnetic output of the device, the water temperature (which effects the efficiency of the gel that conducts the electricity in the pores around their nose (or snout.) Sharks are complex animals who have been evolving for over 400 million years, they factor in more than one factor before taking action. Other things that affect the efficiency of these devices are the particular shark species, water clarity, & situational circumstances like the activity the person is involved in whether it involves fish, splashing, etc. We would love to recommend a device to help minimize adverse interactions because although they are EXTREMELY rare, and generally there is some sort of human influence in those incidents, it doesn't help the sharks reputation regardless of the situation even when humans are 100% to blame. We would love to test any company's device that is interested in sending it over for a week for free field test. I wouldn't endorse anything that doesn't work so if it works I would be happy to share that but thus far as requested by the local swim clubs I have yet to find a device that actually works. #sharksareincredible #sharkresearch #ampullaeoflorenzini ITS THEIR OCEAN @oceanicramsey rp
