phantom limb syndrome
Because I grow obsessive with everything you’ve written I’d love to see s’more Amputee! Stan. Anything works!
This was a disaster, Ford thought Stan could be trusted with his journal, but now he's threatening to burn it. Perhaps he should've found a different way to get rid of it. Ford tackled Stan, there's no way he would let all that research get destroyed like that.
"Aggggh.." Stan groaned, dropping the journal and clutching the middle of his right thigh. Ford immediately froze for a few seconds, then rushed to his side, ultimately wanting Stan to be okay. Not knowing what was going on with him scared Ford.
"Are... are you alright?" Ford looked into Stan's pained eyes and placed his hand on Stan's in an attempt of comfort. Stan waved his hand off roughly, but Ford didn't want to leave his side until he knew what was going on and if he could help.
"I'm.... I'm... fine." Stan did not sound fine. His voice was strained with pain as he clutched his thigh.
"No, you are not 'fine', Stanley." Ford's eyes were full of concern as he watched Stan slowly writhe on the ground, "I promise I won't send you away anymore, you don't appear to be in any condition to do that and I can't in good conscience let you go like this. Please, what's wrong with your leg?"
"Y-you won't send me away?" Stan's voice sounded suspicious, with a tinge of hurt. But something in Ford's eyes seemed to convince him enough to trust him. Stan's eyes were fearful as he undid his pants and pulled them off. Ford inhaled sharply as he saw the rough metal and plastic of two prosthetic limbs ending at approximately where Stan had been clutching. Ford was expecting a simple injury reopened, not... not Stan missing his... missing his legs!
"Stanley! When did this... when did this happen?" Ford felt guilt rip into his heart at the sight. And he was going to send him away to the sea, an amputee, for who knows how long.
"I don't really... remember... My time on the streets was all a blur..." Stan managed to choke out through the pain, "This pain is... a sharp one. Sharper than normal... You may need to help me take my prosthetics off to check the stumps..."
"I should get you upstairs first. If you'll let me assist you of course." Ford, after Stan nodded assent, grabbed Stan's arms and gently lifted him to his feet. Ford acted as a crutch to the elevator and all the way to the bottom floor of the lab. Ford led him to the nearest chair and sat him down.
"I'm... I'm so sorry Stan..." Ford murmured as he carefully pulled the prosthetic off of Stan's stump, "I feel like a fool... I was about to send you away without even noticing you're missing your legs! I shoulda known by your limp that something was off!"
"It's alright Ford... You didn't know..." Stan placed a hand on Ford's shoulder while he placed the prosthetic on the ground. Oh man this stitching is absolutely awful! Ford hated how unprofessional it was, like it was done by someone with no experience, or even just himself!
"What part hurts?" Stan gestured to the stump with general motions. It was looking pretty red. "D'ya think a massage would help? Maybe some creams afterwards?"
"It... It couldn't hurt to try..."
So Ford started the massage, placing his hands on Stan's stump and working all twelve fingers into the skin, rubbing each and every part of his stump. Stan gave a blissful sigh as Ford massaged, so he kept it up. Ford always sorta wondered if his extra fingers would help in a massage, and now he thinks he found his answer.
"Can ya do it to my other stump? Please, that felt amazing."
Ford gladly took off the other prosthetic and did the same as he did with the first. He enjoyed hearing Stan's happy noises as he massaged. It was the least Ford could do to help after everything he did wrong earlier. Ford quickly ran to the bathroom for some cream and gently applied it in dabs. He rubbed it into Stan's stump carefully and, once dried, he reattached Stan's legs.
"Thanks, bro. You mind if I stay here a while?" Stan sounded hopeful after Ford's show of kindness. Ford gently nodded, but his eyes fell to the ground.
"I don't mind, Stan..." Ford looked away guiltily, "I'll just... have to find a different way to take care of that journal. I can't have you do it, and I'm sorry for selfishly thinking you'd be okay with that plan, legs or no legs."
"Is a specific bit of information in there the dangerous bit? Or is the whole thing dangerous?" Stan asked, "Cuz if it is a specific part, you could just rip out the dangerous pages, right? or mark the dangerous info over with marker or something. That way you can keep the journal without the bad bits... right?"
"I... I guess you're right," Ford rubbed his head, "I genuinely didn't think of that... My mind has been so scrambled ever since..." Stan gave a 'go on' look and Ford spilled the beans, how he was tricked by a demon to build the portal he just showed Stan, how his journals held the instructions to it and how paranoid and sleep deprived he was ever since the demon betrayed him.
"Hey, it's okay Ford. I'm here for you like I'm sure you'll be here for me. We'll look out for each other like in those good ol' times, before everything went sour." Stan's words were enough to brighten Ford's outlook on their situation. Ford embraced Stan, never wanting to let go.
Over the next few days, Ford completely dismantled the portal. Ford also made sure to give Stan a nice massage to his stump regularly, not wanting him to feel so much pain like he did when he first got here. And the portal pages in the journal were taken care of with a good dose of marker. The twins soon got over their differences with some struggle and became an inseparable duo like they used to be as kids.
