💞 i already know this is going to make me weep

send 💞 for me to describe five ways my muse says i love you’ to yours.

( one. ) the way rose will indulge mia on any distraction she may need to feel better, no matter how ridiculous or crazy, as long as it makes mia smile and feel as if she’s not alone, because she never is and she will always have rose. ( two. ) the way rose always reaches for mia’s hand when she sees the other is stressed and laces their fingers together to ground her. mia has always been so much more than rose, and if rose can offer comfort in her touch then she will. ( three. ) the way rose was the first person in a really long time that rose had actually wanted to introduce to her family, if her family had even cared. ( four. ) the way rose has memorized all of mia’s orders in their favorite restaurants. ( five. ) the way mia was the first person in a really long time to look at rose the way henry did, like rose was someone worthy of being more than just blending into the background, and how rose will therefore follow mia wherever she goes and will always be there for her, even when she knows mia will take her time opening up. how she knows parts of mia’s childhood, and how mia has never mentioned childhood friends to rose, and rose will always stay by mia’s side.

" WELL ,  YOU  HAVE  ALWAYS  A  KNACK  for  pointing  out  the  obvious . “  his  blood - stained  words  landed  roughly  into  the  tense  room ;  hopelessly  misplaced  in  the  context  which  he  had  put  them  in .  endlessly  confusing ,  having  taking  shots  which  he  had  no  right  taking  ;  jumping  into  battle  for  someone  who  he  had  no  logical  reason  to  try  and  DEFEND .   “  ...  we  don’t  have  to  talk  about  it . “  basile  pressed  out  the  words  before  she  could ,  his  only  goal  being  to  divert  the  subject  before  she  had  the  chance  to  speak  once  more  -----  the  burn  of  admitting  even  an  inkling  of  concern  for  the  girl  in  front  of  him  would  leave  far  more  of  a  bruise  than  any  punch  thrown  his  way .  the  slightly  swollen  knuckles  moved  over ,  palm  flat  across  amelia’s  back  in  order  to  move  her  out  the  way  for  him  to  reach  for  an  icepack  in  the  fridge .  perhaps  it  was  the  slight  ringing  in  his  ears ,  the  taste  of  something  red  and  IRON  on  his  tongue  ;  but  yet  another  bad  decision  came  to  the  surface  and  drowned  his  better  judgement  out .  a  forceful  confession  ,  an  acknowledgement ,  of  the  situation  of  raised  voices  and  insistent  hands  trying  to  pull  him  away  from  his  intended  target .  “  ... -----  i  only  did  it  because  no  one  else  was  going  to .  i  might  not  like  you ,  but  you  deserve  to  have  someone  on  your  side . “  perhaps  it  was  his  imagination ,  but  the  clear  annoyance  in  the  amethyst’s  eyes  seemed  to  fade  even  the  most  little  bit  ;  replaced  by  something  else .  “  WHAT ?  can  you  stop  looking  at  me  like  i’m  the  one  who’s  stepped  out  of  line  here  ?  he  deserved  what  he  got . “

HOURS  LATER  ,  the  words  exchanged  seemed  to  be  hard  to  remember  now  ;  to  decipher  from  between  impatient  touches  and  sheets .  basile  found  it  safer  to  find  peace  in  his  actions  then  -----   with  a  still  form  next  to  him  ;   with  her  back  turned .  with  the  two  of  them ,  every  move  seemed  to  be  lighter  and  SOFTER  when  shrouded  by  dark  rooms  and  under  fleeting  pretenses .  the  same  hand  which  had  split  open  by  someone’s  jaw ,  reached  over  boundaries  which  they  had  never  even  gone  near  before ,   ( fingertips  grazing  her  spine )  .  then  again  ,  had  not  his  previous  actions  already  put  their  world  in  jeopardy  ?  had  not  the  reality  shifted  and  distorted  under  the  weight  of  his  fist  ?    the  room  which  had  been  filled  with  anger  and  uncertainty  had  ended  up  feeling  empty  ;  her  words  spoken  out  into  nothing  at  all .  basile’s  hand  flattened  out  against  her  skin ,  carnelian  resting  dangerously  upon  something  which  it  should  not  touch .  “  you  seemed  quite  pissed  off  even  when  i  did  do  it .  “  his  response  lacked  all  bite ,  almost  kind  and  KNOWING  as  he  inched  closer .  “  i  know  that  shouldn’t  have  i  inserted  myself  in  something  that  was  not  ...   i  know  that  whatever  you  do  is  not  my  business . “  a  humourless ,  painfully  exposing  ,  chuckle  directed  towards  the  ceiling  .  “   but  just  as  he  deserved  what  he  got ,  you  also ...  deserved  better .  “  a  shift  on  the  mattress  ,  bruised  lips  pressed  against  a  shoulder  blade  so  quickly  it  almost  felt  like  a  thought  more  than  an  act  before  it  passed  and  he  retreated  to  the  edge  of  the  bed .  “ i’ll  go .  hope  you’ll  be  able  to  rest . “

“ i’m sick of it. sick of pretending. putting on a fake smile all night long, pretending that everything was all right. but nothing is all right. ” / “ she’s always been by my side. she’s everything to me. ”

his heart hurts listening to the amethyst. with whom he’s grown so used to having lighthearted conversations with that it feels a bit like being hit by a freight train as he listens to her vent. “you don’t need to pretend, mia. not here,” he gestures vaguely around the room before looking back at her. a newfound sternness in his eyes that he so seldom shows. “and definitely not with me.” never around him. “it’s okay to just... not be okay. and sometimes it’s just as important to accept that.” for a moment there is nothing but a look of pure concern in his eyes as he tries to fathom a solution. “do you want me to make you a mug of tea? then we can watch anything you like... or i can sketch you a picture of a tiny little sheep eating your troubles away.” eliot pauses, fully aware he’s about to inundate her with ideas. “or... we can sit in silence. just like this.” 

“ she’s always been by my side. she’s everything to me. ”

it’s clear that poppy’s disappearance has taken it’s toll on all of them recently. fractures now so apparent in their circlet that small gestures he usually reserves for breaking up arguments seem fruitless. and as mia speaks his own marks show. a signature smile replaced briefly by the smallest downward tug of his lips as he frowns. “i know,” he says quietly. ‘i really miss her too’, hovering on his lips but it lingers as it sounds far too much like something to be shared in the wake of a death than for a girl who is still alive. he’s without a comforting word for only a few seconds, yet somehow with the weight of their conversation it ends up feeling far longer. “we’re going to find her, okay?”
