PSA to all able bodied parents

I’m young and disabled, and if your child sees me out in public they will probably have questions. If I don’t look busy/I look like I’m open to talking to a stranger, encourage your child to ask me their questions. It makes me happy to talk to little kids about my disability because most of them are a frickin joy.

The reason that I’m ok talking about my disability with random little kids is that kids feel like they have something to learn from me. Most adults who try to ask me about my disability don’t actually want to learn about disabilities at all, they just want to know my story for inspiration porn or to remind themselves that “other people have it worse”.

I, of course, don’t speak for all disabled people, but on a personal level, if I’m not busy, I don’t mind talking to your kids. I’d much rather talk to them now than have to deal with their ignorance in 20 years.
