Watch the Trailer for “Janis: Little Girl Blue”
“She, like, took a flag and made a place in rock ‘n’ roll for women,” Melissa Etheridge says about Janis Joplin. “She was the first.”
The audio clip comes from the trailer from director Amy Berg’s new documentary “Janis: Little Girl Blue.” The film consists of archival footage and interviews with Joplin, who died of a heroin overdose in 1970 at 27, and interviews with fellow musicians and the singer’s siblings.
“I want (moviegoers) to understand that Janis set a path for women to walk that was much more risky than the path that men take as they chart new territory,” Berg told The Columbus Dispatch. "But without the fragile, raw and powerful Janis, we would have a different landscape in music today.”
The trailer features audio from “Mercedes Benz” and clips from the film and closes with a voiceover from an actress reading Joplin’s words.
“As it gets closer and more probable, being a star is really losing its meaning, but whatever it means, I’m ready.”
“Janis: Little Girl Blue” is open nationwide in a limited run. Check local listings.
