"Do you ever think about the future?" (Sammie)

Benjamin laughed, though not unkindly. "Could you maybe be more specific?" Holding a smooth stone loosely between his fingertips, he assessed the stream they were standing in front of, then released it with a gentle toss. The rock hop-skipped across the water several strokes before sinking in a forlorn, triumphant plop.
Shaking out his wrist, Benjamin sighed and looked back over to Samuel, arching a brow. "Getting sentimental, are we?"
In truth, he didn't have the heart to say that in w.ar, it was both tempting and dangerous to think of the future. After all, there was a possibility that neither would make it out alive -- that neither would return home beyond a casket -- and with an uncomfortable knot in his throat, he hummed before passing Samuel a stone.
"Your turn, Mr. Down in the Doldrums," he teased. "Can't you think of anything else?"
