Wild #reindeer swimming across the #Kotuy River, which separate’s #Taymyr’s #Putorana and #Anabar plateaux. Taymyr is home to the world’s largest reindeer herd (roughly one million head). In late August their #migration passes through this area and anyone travelling in the Kotuy or #Khatanga rivers will constantly spot reindeer swimming across. Nomadic #Dolgan #reindeer herders migrating in #Anabar, the northernmost district of #Yakutia, in early February just after the reappearance of the sun. At 1000km north of the #Arctic Circle in the coldest inhabited part of the world, these are the northernmost #nomads in the world and undoubtedly live in the harshest conditions. From November 26th to January 26th they have complete darkness and felt temperatures with wind chill can reach -100C. They live in wooden cabins built on sledge runners and covered in furs.
