As I mentioned here, Obi-Wan thinks he's subtle about his desire for Anakin but really, he's not very subtle and Anakin calls him out sknflskna

Obi-Wan’s hands found his hips immediately. He rubbed his thumbs on the prominent bones and bit his lip when Anakin wriggled on his lap, his hard cock rubbing against his taint. “You always liked my hips.” Anakin teased, his hand playing with the hair on Obi-Wan’s chest. “Your eyes wander, you know.” Obi-Wan felt his cheeks flush. He knew he found Anakin attractive, but he had hoped he had been subtler. “I’m so-” He couldn’t finish his apology before Anakin pressed two of his fingers against his lips, pressing against them until Obi-Wan opened his mouth. “No apologies, I hadn’t been so desired since…”

Also, for plot reasons, Anakin leaves at one point of the story and Obi-Wan feels a little lonely, so he gets a small cat called Boga and he's not sure Anakin won't eat it once he returns and meets her

By the time he got downstairs again, he found an adorable sight in front of him. Boga was perched on top of the coffee table, locked into a staring contest with Anakin. Her tail was moving like crazy and her back was slightly curved, trying to make herself look bigger. Anakin, on his part, was tense and his pupils were dilated to the point his eyes looked almost black. Unfamiliar with how a selkie would react to a cat on the long term, he faked a cough and broke Anakin’s concentration, the man turning towards him. “So you’ve met Boga.” Obi-Wan said, reaching the couch and sitting next to Anakin. “Here, she likes pets on her head.” He explained, his hand scratching the cat behind one of her ears. A small purr could be heard from Boga. Anakin stared at Obi-Wan before extending his own arm towards the cat. Boga seemed to know there was something strange about Anakin, because she was suddenly alert again, sniffing his hand, her body tense and ready to spring away from them at any sudden moment. Obi-Wan felt like he was watching himself interact with the twins all those months ago.

I would say this is a very domestic, slice of life kind of fic which is ironic because it was going to be a PWP originally but then I found a theme I wanted to explore and here we are, 10K words in and I still have quite the amount of fic to write lol

Lmao I’m dying over your tags about fruit fly gene names. I listened to an interview with a geneticist who works with C. elegans a while ago and he had major beef with fruit fly geneticists over naming conventions. 😂

you know, I’m beginning to wonder if this isn’t just a normal thing for them. my professor for the developmental biology part of this course is a big drosophila guy and two weeks ago he waxed lyrical about gene naming conventions for it, which was somehow still better than the solid twenty minutes he spent today trying to convince us of drosophila’s superiority as a means of studying development and cancer (presumably as a preface to Thursday’s lesson, where he actually has to talk about c elegans organogeneis experiments). at one point he had to admit that c elegans has a shorter generation time, but he quickly alleviated his own distress by following up that harrowing admission with three minutes of describing how wonderful the Nüsslein-Volhard and Wieschaus experiments were for the study of embryonic development

40. Do you tend to reread fics or are you a one-and-done kind of person?

I love to reread fics! I'm a little behind on reading in general right now but there are some fics I've read probably ten times at least. Sometimes for comfort and/or spice, sometimes to discover new things I missed the first time and sometimes just because the story feels different depending on what's going on with me at the time.

So this is the most self indulgent AU I have ever started. It has been living in my head for over a year and I've tried a few times to try and write it (hence "redux") and I'm never satisfied with the setup. So I'm not gonna share a snippet because lol I'm not happy with what I have right now.

The essential parts of this AU are that:

Anakin is a tooka boy

He is Senator Obi-Wan's very put upon protege as part of a workplace study program for the political science program

In Obi-Wan's culture there is a thing called "patronage", where hybrids like Anakin are essentially sugarbabies for aristocrats for a time in exchange for sex for a set period of time to gain access to better opportunities in the job market. It is a lingering aspect of their culture that Obi-Wan has spoken out against in the past as an archaic, predatory and fetishizing practice.

They both want to fuck so so bad

However:

Anakin doesn't want to jeopardize Obi-Wan's career by making him appear to be a hypocrite. He's done a lot of good work, using his position in the senate to help amplify hybrid voices and enact progress not just on the sector he represents but also across the galaxy--okay sure there's a bit of a human saviour narrative going on here but every bit helps, he's definitely helped pave the way for someone like Anakin

Obi-Wan does not want to jeopardize Anakin's potential career in politics because he's clever and smart and the most competent of Obi-Wan's assistants despite his temper and his tardiness. He just has so much promise. Also he just really likes the kid, they have similar senses of humour and Anakin isn't afraid to snark at him. So Obi-Wan doesn't want to ruin his life by fucking him.

Except Anakin is starting to realize that even though he's supposed to be a model hybrid and he wants to make things better for people like him (it's the only reason he's even gotten involved in politics in the first place) and not play into the slutty sex toy stereotype.... god he wants to be Obi-Wan's slutty sex toy in every possible way.

So it's them dancing around things waiting for Anakin's internship to fucking finish so one of them can make a fucking move and not potentially fuck something up. The sexual tension will be insane. Especially since they both want to fuck and they both know they want to fuck and that they can't. Shenanigans.

The title is a play on, obviously, a protégé (apprentice) and protégé, the past participle of the french verb protéger (“to protect”).
