I feel like this is a paradox because the new year has yet to come.
The worst new years ever has yet to come because for it to be the worst new years it has to have been worst than the next years and all future new years to come and therefore since it has not happened yet it can not yet be scaled against the unknown as the "worst new years ever".
Deeper Meaning: It can't be the worst if there's more to come.
Deeper deeper Meaning: There is always more to come. Life is continuously throwing positives and negatives at us. We must definitively look at these events as not the last so as to make sure we do not have an expectation of the next event as better or worse.
