Of course for me it was "You Owe Me A Drink" That brought me here. I love that story. It made me cry, and smile, and feel sorrow and hope and resignation and excitement. I'd never felt a trans character that resonated with me so well, especially not in such a well written form! I had to leave a comment and then write fanfic for your fanfic!

Would that be fanfic²?

Random question, if you could be the god of any realm or concept. What would you fancy being?

Oh I WAS going to bed but this intrigued me so I had to stop and think

I think I would be... something related to pleasure. To joy. To self-esteem or self-love or something. I spent decades of my life hating myself and my body and forbidding myself pleasure, forbidding myself joy. Developing an eating disorder because my parents started putting me on diets at the age of 9 and telling me my body was disgusting. Developing such a severe complex about sex that I put myself through years of conversion therapy. Not listening to music I liked because other people would make fun of it.

I'm a fat, kinky asexual. I'm staring down the barrel of 40. I love food as a love language, as a means of expressing joy, as an artform. I've been to Nickleback concerts, the horror. Our life on this planet is far too short to deny ourselves joy, whatever form that joy may take for us

So yeah I'd be like. The god of joy or something

25. a fic you read this year you would recommend everyone read

Oh no this was 100% the year that Defira discovered terrible things about her taste in villains, so like 95% of my reading history on AO3 has been featuring a character that most people loathe, and a lot of it was Dead Dove content too so uhhhh. I don't know that anyone wants me to recommend that stuff >.>

I'll stick with The Illusion of Choice by @icescrabblerjerky which is an Astarion centric fic which just blows me away with every chapter. Astarion is the companion whose voice I struggle with the most, and they're out here writing an entire longfic from his perspective AND hitting his characterisation on the head every time? Magnificent. Perfection. Miri it's such a delight sharing a fandom with you again

27. favorite fanfic author of the year

Well @icescrabblerjerky would be an obvious contender. I've also been dipping my toes in the Gortash fandom on tumblr and @bearhugsandshrugs is both a delightful person and a great (and prolific!) writer. And I couldn't not mention @sithrightsactivist for the hours spent screaming in co-writer hell together. And you've introduced me to some fandoms and pairings I never would have looked at!

Congratulations, you found the one dragon age fic in the list! Named of course for the Florence + The Machine song, also possibly my favourite Florence song because I love the immense and deeply simmering rage in it, which is perfect for how I envision Beren Vestrius, my main Rook

The seven devils specifically for Beren is a reference to the seven (main) Evanuris and their archdemons, but it's also just a representation of how deeply the rage and resentment in her soul poisons her, to the point where she has nothing driving her by end game except for an almost primal hatred - for the Evanuris, for the Magisterium, for the Vestrius family specifically, for the powerful humans who dominate the politics of the Shadow Dragons without any consideration towards the elves of Tevinter, for Solas, for Mythal... she is so consumed by her hatred and her rage that she's willing to burn everything down including herself

I like having unhinged and angry protagonists, and my last two DA protags were very well adjusted all things considered, so Beren joins the ranks with Elissa in being just a fundamentally broken individual with a desperate need for the sort of mental health support network that doesn't exist in Thedas unfortunately

There's not a huge amount of plot for the fic, because I don't think I'm likely to go back to DATV any time soon, but it was going to feature Felassan because I've decided he's my new blorbo that I'm taking back from death

6. When did Durge start calling Gortash babygurl? How advanced was their rs at that point already?

You KNOW Kass was doing that almost day one. She was such a trollop when she was young. Anything she could do to make Gortash lose his temper or blow a gasket with her teasing, she'd do it. She absolutely tried "Gorty-Worty" at least once. She stopped almost instantly after Bhaal's resurrection, because she was fundamentally such a different person after that

7. What does Gortash call Durge? Bebe, kitten, bae, cutie patootie, smth else entirely?

I think it's a combination of Jason Isaacs' voice and the handful of terms of endearment that Gortash uses in game, but he feels far more old fashioned to me than Kass and her shitstirring (you know she did the silly rabbit speech at least once just to make him put his head in his hands). Darling, dearest, my dear are all fairly daily use for him, but he has been known to use vixen and temptress in the right settings.

4. The Warden hates Durge. Why? What did they do?

I was going to say I don't think it was anything in particular, just that The Warden has an overinflated sense of self and wanted to be the biggest kid on the playground which Durge/Kass undermined, but... I'm also thinking about the little bits I've actually written about Moonrise and pre-tadpole Kass, and she was miserable at Moonrise. She hates being out of the city, and she felt superfluous to the plan once the brain was leashed, and she felt like all of her wit and cunning was rather useless in the wilds so I think that Kass was also a bit of a shit at times in Moonrise. I think she probably threw her weight around when she was bored and feeling miserable, and of course the prisons and the torture cells are going to be where she gravitates apart from the library. I think Kass probably played with her favourite prisoners, got her gross Bhaalspawn cooties all over her favourite toys, just to mock her

12. What does their handwriting look like?

Flawless. Exquisite calligraphy. Kass' penmanship is unmatched. As with so many of her skills, Kass fixated at a young age on making herself appealing to people, either as a daughter or a student or a potential adoptee and then as Bhaal's presumed saviour, and the handwriting was no exception. In the period when she and Heron were living on the streets, she would steal books in addition to food, because she was so desperate to keep learning and trying to make herself appealing so that someone would find her irresistible
