Early for MerMay, just in time for @rueitae‘s birthday. This is from a collab AU Rue and I are working on where all the paladins are mers and the Alteans and Galra are humans (funny, right?), deals with capture and experimentation and all kinds of fun angsty tropes. I don’t want to give too much away so this will be a little taste of what’s to come.

I kept joking with my roommate that Pidge looks like kale and spinach mermaid but Rue and I were talking about how females would be more dark, muted colors while males are vibrant and colorful (just like in the animal kingdom) so I gave Pidge very subtle, natural greens like plants. I’m also thinking Lance may have some bioluminescence to some of his scales because he’s a show-off like that.

Also they’re totally doing a courting/marriage ritual dance here ^w^ (that’s all the spoilers I shall give)

He approaches Pidge, still sound asleep despite the squeaking of the mice. She looks so serene in the light of the forest, her soft breaths misting the coiled fist by her mouth. He hates to wake her, but they really need to get moving; the road to Earth is long. He kneels before her, setting his bayard down and taking one of her hands in his own, chuckling at how intimate and romantic this looks. It’s almost as if he were a prince waking a princess from her slumber. 

“Wakey wakey, Sleeping Beauty,” Lance teases. “Time to get back on the road.” 

Adorably, Pidge squishes her face in disgust, but does not wake. “... ‘m not a princess,” she mumbles.

An excerpt and scene glimpse from @rueitae ‘s heartwarming fic, Respite of the Heart! This was a super fun commission to do and it really stretched my creative abilities. Rue is a delight to work with and it’s like she designed the commission specifically for me. There’s nothing quite more enchanting than finding Pidge sleeping like a princess in a colorful forest. I’m super pleased I got the chance to bring Rue’s brilliant writing to life - please read her fic and leave some lovely comments! Keep watering the Plance!

Ever since they were kidnapped, Katie has always sought out Lance for comfort. She felt safe in his arms and would crawl into his bed whenever she was anxious or had nightmares. This became a pattern even as they grew older but Lance doesn’t mind in the slightest. He welcomes the comfort in the strange and terrifying reality they’ve been thrust into. 

And I can imagine Lance has been woken up numerous times from Katie shifting in her sleep and poking him with her horns

Things aren’t the way they were before You wouldn’t even recognize me anymore Not that you knew me back then  But it all comes back to me in the end...

The past week or so I’ve had a really exciting art concept in my head for my fic Shatter and Tessellate and I’m pleasantly surprised with how it turned out. It’s going to serve as the cover art for the fic when I complete BTBH prompts as the story progresses.

How many AUs can I make where Lance has cat ears? not enough

-cough- ANYWHO. Sooooo I’ve yet to see any Plance Galra AUs out there (I’ve seen Galtean and Altean AUs, but none where they’re both Galra) and due to brainstorming ideas and influence from Rue’s writing I uhhh... came up with a super angsty AU idea.

It’s going to involve a lot of horror elements and brainwashing and it’s going to be so much delicious angst! But naturally I had to figure out their Galra designs before I could start working on the story but hopefully I’ll at least crank out chapter one sometime here soon. I’m pretty sure I’m going to give Pidge a tail as well because why not and even though you can’t see it here hers is going to look like a deer’s to match her ears.

Also... Pidge’s helmet thing in this which I directly copied from Honerva’s in s8... is exactly like Meklavar’s helmet and the parallels Pidge has to Honerva has me squinting my eyes and coming up with conspiracy theories. Anyway, Pidge is going to have lots of ties to Honerva in this AU...

So we got talking in the discord about ABO dynamics and I couldn’t stop thinking about Lance marking Katie as his mate and how he’ll basically lunge straight to her throat when she finally approaches him in a courting manner. 

My Galra cultural headcanon is that women are the ones who basically initiate the relationship/courting by showing interest in wanting to bed a male. The male can accept or decline such a gesture but it is up to the male to mark a woman as his mate if he wishes to stay in such a relationship. (For homosexual couples I would assume it would be a similar manner with whomever has the more omega/beta vs alpha tendencies) So in a sense, males can’t sleep with whoever they want, they have to be invited first, and women can’t seal their “proposal,” the man has to agree to it by marking her. Galra mates or their equivalent of “marriages” require both sides to commit and they remain partners for life. 

Lance and Katie are both totally dense, thinking the other could never possibly be interested in them, when lo and behold they’ve both been craving each other this whole time. So when they finally get together it’ll be pretty heated and passionate.

Also imagine Katie is kneeling on the bed or that Lance is even lifting her up against him because she is no where near that tall (the shortie comes up to about his pecs).

I had to make a reference sheet for these two so I could get their markings and everything down right, and talking in the discord server made me realize that galra genes would probably make everyone taller (since most galra are heckin huge). So I set my height chart next to Katie for around 5′4″-5′5″ because that’s how I imagine her being in this AU (in canon I hc Pidge as 5′1″-5′2″ so she’s still a bit taller!) and it turns out Lance is a solid 7′ tall. That’s going to ensue some fun height differences for these two.

I’m also working on some reference sheets for various outfits they will wear (including their Voltron paladin armor with adjustments for their anatomy) so those will be posted soon! 

Poor Katie’s short genes are just too strong that not even galra genes can change her short arms.

Katie, determinedly: I'm actually 5'6 1/2"!! Lance: You can't count your horns that's cheating! By that logic I'm 7'4" because of my ears. Katie: let me have this Lance

Happy Halloween from the Plance family!! 

Here is the “humanized” or Plance version of my Pikelavar family! We’ve got from left to right, Holly (Ayla), Percy, Evelyn (Evaine), and Hazel (Akos). I came up with the headcanon that all the kids have Pokemon nicknames because Lance and Pidge are nerds like that. 

Hazel and Holly are Squirtle and Bulbasaur since they were Lance and Pidge’s “starters,” which nicknames evolve to Squirt (which is funny because Hazel ends up super tall) and Ivy (short for Ivysaur and I wanted my name as a Plance child because it’s funny). Here they’re dressed as Wartortle and Ivysaur though because they’re older (probably around 8) and have dressed up as Squirtle and Bulbasaur before. And then Evelyn’s nickname is Eevee and Percy is Persian. 

And yes Hazel has hazel eyes don’t @ me.
