Congressional records document the Yamassee being described as "Negro" descendants like most Indian tribes from that era. The Yamassee was proclaimed to be last seen in the Northern Florida and had become known as Seminole, from St. Augustine over to Pensacola, down to Miami and Central Florida of Ocala.
