Goths
A Goth was a group of people that were a group of East Germanic people that were separated by two branches. The branches were Visigoths and Ostrogoths. They played an important role in the fall of Rome’s Western Empire and the rise of Medieval Europe. They spoke the Gothic Language which was last heard in Crimea in the 18th century.
Visigoths were very skilled potters and blacksmiths. When peace treaty’s between Rome and the Visigoths appeared they Goths demanded a free trade. The imports from Rome included wine and cooking oil. Visigoths were also very good farmers. They planted many crops and had different animals from cattle to sheep. They used the wool from the sheep to make clothing. They originally practiced Gothic Paganism but then converted to Arian Christianity.
Many of the people in Goth villages were commoners. Paupers were buried with funeral rights whereas Slaves were not. Out of 50 - 100 people there were only 4 or 5 elute couples in a village. Cemeteries featured cremations and inhuman burials and some of the grave gods were pottery, bone combs, iron tools but hardly ever weapons.
The Goths have died out but a variation of the Gothic Language is Gutnish and it is spoken in Gotland and Fårö. Old Gutnish was the dialect of Old Norse there.
