Way to Bombay.... A ‘milestone’ amidst the hub of the city, brings your jogging, and your senses to a sudden halt. Yes, this original, marked stone of the British era, guiding the carriages to the nearest point, makes you want to trudge back in history. Passers by seem oblivious of its presence or it’s importance. Broken pavements and roadwork all around relegated it to the non-descript. But the painstaking efforts of the BMC, and a conservationist architect have managed to pull it out from a four feet depth and safely mount it onto this platform. Walk to Cumballa Hill, Kemp’s Corner, to admire this rare beauty, the only one with a numerical 3 miles, inscribed on it. The other few left in the city all have Roman numericals.
