Over the years, Deeks has received multiple offers for law positions. Some were fairly attractive positions, coming from bigger firms or for federal agencies, while others were downright offensive and paid less than what he made as a public defender. After he’d been with NCIS for a while, those job offers pretty much dried up. He figured that they either got the message that he was happy where he was, or simply didn’t want a lawyer who hadn’t practiced in nearly a decade.
Then suddenly in the last year, he’s been approached by both the FBI and CIA to join their legal teams. Assuming it was some kind of prank, Deeks laughed the first one off. The stone-faced director who made the offer assured him he was completely serious at which point Deeks informed him that he was only an investigator, not an agent. The director said he was well aware and it was Deeks’ performance at FLETC, particularly when it came to legal matters, that peaked their interest.
Deeks hasn’t told anyone about it, not even Kensi. It’s not like he’s changing positions as long as she’s still an agent. However, he has to admit, it does feel pretty good to be wanted.
