actually the funniest Batman time travel / alternate universe scenario is one where he shows up in the full armor/cowl/etc to an Alfred who just welcomed Bruce Wayne home from his insufferable vegetarian soul-searching fitness training and hasn’t learned about the man-bat thing yet, so Bruce Wayne’s standing there with his grin fading slightly as Alfred says “a BAT costume, Master Wayne? What on earth?” meanwhile there’s a prototype Batsuit under his clothes he worked hard on that week so he and Batman are just looking at each other like

Something that is so very important to me is the idea that Bruce Wayne—not just Batman—is doing everything he can for Gotham. Like pouring his money into foundations and public programs and doing whatever the hell he can with his endless wealth because at his core Bruce wants to help Gotham. Give me Bruce Wayne who is doing more for Gotham than anybody else in the world and it still not being enough without Batman's help.

He’s essentially fighting a war on two completely different fronts.

That’s always how I’ve thought about it. It’s also a good rebuttal for critics who say he should stop beating up people and just do more charity/therapy. The whole reason he has to be Batman is because the money isn’t enough. He could sink the entire Wayne fortune and the profits of WE every year into the city and it still wouldn’t be enough. The same is true for for Batman — without Bruce Wayne’s access, intel, persona, etc — he’s limited significantly. He might be fine fighting lower level goons, but Batman on his own, without Bruce Wayne, will never truly be able to affect the big picture.

finally listening closely to the Batman Begins soundtrack and realizing that the Harvey Dent Suite pulls the same “Gotham” motif from the first movie later in TDK. It’s part of Bruce’s scenes in Begins and almost exclusively Harvey’s in TDK.

So, I know there are plenty of iconic nicknames for Dick — particularly “the Boy Wonder” — during his time as Robin. All of those are great. Very cute. Very wholesome.

However, I think we need to bring back “devil-child with the laughing eyes”.

Is it a mouthful? Yes. Does it convey every single aspect of Dick’s character at that age? Immaculately so. He’s mischievous. He’s dangerous. But he’s silly and gleeful while doing it, and always laughing. Just… hopefully not at you.

(And, if he isn’t silly or gleeful, if he isn’t laughing… run.)
