It wasn’t that Betty Cooper hated holidays, in fact, she loved them. Well, she did once upon a time.
The people she dated, it seemed, had no regard for her feelings (obviously) and dumped her on a number of them.
There was her first boyfriend, Archie Andrews, who broke up with her on July 4th to kiss some other girl under the fireworks. Then was Reggie Mantle, who waited until Valentine’s Day to let her know he’d be taking someone else to the fancy dinner she was dressed up and ready for. By the end of high school, she had been broken up with a few more times. Somehow, all on lesser holidays, but on holidays nonetheless.
What about college Betty? Well, she didn’t fare any better.
There was Adam. Boy, did she think she’d found something special in Adam Chisholm. Turns out, wrong. On Thanksgiving day, hours before she was finally to meet his family, he took the pie she’d painstakingly baked from her hands and informed her she would no longer be joining them.
And the three subsequent relationships that followed all ended on Christmas. Two on the Eve and one on the day. After presents. She hasn’t gone back home for Christmas since. Instead, she stays in Philly, makes sure she’s stocked up on Mom-Mom’s pierogies, and watches all the movies with happy endings she’ll never have.
