Something that sucks. When a person develops a crush on their friend right? Let's say person A develops a crush on person B. They don't tell them. But person A starts acting less friendly and less caring because of it. They start acting weird and not like themself. It's like person A stranger zones their best friend (person B) and acts more like a jerk. Suddenly person A can't handle their friend saying anything caring like "I love you (as a friend)" and sending hearts as a friend. Suddenly being sappy is too weird. Like anything they used to do all the time just becomes weird. So person A makes person B feel awful at times. Person A makes person B feel like they are being weird for being friendly. Suddenly person A doesn't want to call anymore even though they talk to all their other friends on the phone, they won't talk to person B at all. For seemingly no reason. So person B thinks A hates them now.
Then the other thing that sucks. When you become friends with someone but the entire friendship was based on a crush and then suddenly they don't like you anymore, or they realize they can't date you so they just start treating you poorly.
Some great advice is to not be person A. Try to recognize if you are being person A. Be real with things.
And when person B disappears or starts giving you the same stuff back just realize it's unhealthy for person B to give you their time and energy when you are making them feel bad. No matter how much person B wants to care they have to walk away for themselves. They have to back off for themselves. It sucks feeling like you are trying to get your friend to like you or want to be your friend.
