like.... being pressured into being perfect b/c ‘you’re the smart kid’ and feeling shit when you only got an A- because of super high expectations sucks, i know, but if you call yourself stupid and an idiot because of said minus to a friend who got a C, and said friend gets upset with you, and angry, they’re well within their rights. You literally just called them stupid and an idiot. That’s like, something to take offence to. Instead of defending your right to call them that, how about apologize? Not that hard, you didn’t even do it on purpose! But you just made somebody you’re supposed to care about feel shit about themselves, the words ‘i’m sorry’ + however much of an explanation you’re willing to give does not hurt you, but it might save the self-esteem of somebody else.

kind of like a much less drastic version of ‘cool motive! still murder’. Yeah, your reasons for accidentally insulting them were understandable, your feelings are valid, and that’s not even what you meant, but you still did it, their negative feelings over what you said are ALSO valid, so get over it and say sorry for being an asshole to somebody.
