This book was a nice surprise.
I had zero expectations for it, was lured in by the tropes represented. A tale inspired by the dynamics between Hades and Persephone and of the Beauty and the Beast.
And while they're certainly there and the core of the book, there's so much more.
It's so nice and comforting to read about a healthy relationship even when they are so rare to come across.
But that's exactly what Eldas and Luella have.
Yes,the road to get there is rocky and long but the way they both get together is so genuine and resonates with them as characters.
None of them change per se after or in order to be with the other. They evolve. Because that's what happens when you love someone and in general, when you start getting close to another person. You influence each other and the difference between you is what prompts you to look things in a different way and to explore things that you would never do on your own.
It's really beautiful how the emphasis is put on how love is a choice. How important it is to make a decision and own it and not it being a product of circumstances. Something that often happens in these kind of dynamics/tropes.
Also, can I just say how much I enjoyed the exposing of the toxicity of the friends to lovers dynamic? Of course, this is especially true in the context of this book and for Luke and Luella in particular. However, I also feel like in highlighting Luke's wrongdoings and why he was so wrong for Luella, it was also being made clear why this dynamics can be problematic. And personally, why I don't like them.
So, overall, this book was a really nice surprise. I've finished it in less than 12 hours and even found that the first person narrator didn't bother me like it usually does. Maybe this was for the quality of the writing or because Luella wasn't an annoying and stereotyped heroine like most of them are.

I want to relax and play a bit sobs the only thing I do with my 3ds since school started was to turn it on then leave it on for the rest of the day while I go to school and back. It's really sad that the only thing I'm playing nowadays is mii/2 goddamn.
Oh but even though next month's pretty busy too at least I have a recess week to take a breather. And after that I'm going to malaysia for an overseas biology field trip! I want to snorkel even though I'm a really bad swimmer haha. Hope I won't die.
