Aunt Nerine & the Briar Valley Incident
Okay, so. I think I'm kinda set on what happened with the whole "not allowed to visit Briar Valley" bit.
I mean I've had a vague idea ever since whatever, just couldn't decide on the exact details / people involved.
But, to set the scene:
Aunt Nerine is (was?) a princess of another fae realm. Not in direct line of succession, but close enough to be considered important and to hold the title.
(Malleus talked about the small fairies hailing from Faeland in Fairy Gala, and I'm under the impression that Briar Valley is not the only realm / country for the fae in general. Of course, feel free to drop some correcting lore my way if I'm mistaken.)
(Also where said realm is or what it'd be called? Idk, I'll figure it out at some point - unless something has happened to the place since. Anyway.)
And, being a princess and a member of the extended royal family, back in the day, Nerine would sometimes visit Briar Valley, and in general would have interactions with the royal family there.
Including one Maleanor Draconia.
And, like... Stubborn and arrogant as Maleanor may be, there's just something fetching about that princess, you know?
So Nerine gets a bit of a crush.
Maybe not even just a bit.
(Idk the exact extent of it myself yet, since I'm not sure either how much they would've interacted and just how young they would've been, relatively speaking, when things happened. But anyway, the feelings are there.)
Alas, Nerine’s signature spell, which lets her detect affectionate feelings between people, doesn’t work in relation to herself.
So, even when she cast it on Maleanor / in Maleanor's presence, Nerine still didn’t know if her feelings were reciprocated or not.
However. she did find some unexpressed feelings in the Maleanor, Raverne (and perhaps Lilia) tangle, and nudged them to light.
In a... less than subtle way.
Maleanor Draconia, of course, was not the sort of person to exactly appreciate the fact that spells with compulsion/control elements were cast on her. Not one bit.
So, it was only Nerine’s significant position within another realm (and the involvement of Raverne & Lilia) that led to her only being expelled from Briar Valley - rather than her being smitten to dust by a very angry dragon.
It still made for quite the international incident between the two nations, but not quite as bad as it could've been, had Maleanor retaliated unchecked.
