Camp NaNo Update
I’m still on track to edit 10,000 words for the month. It’s slow going, but with the way things are right now that’s to be expected. And anyway, progress is progress, regardless of the pace, so I have no reason to worry. It’s not like I have a deadline for Lies, after all.
For those missing my snippets, here’s Bethany and Faith having breakfast together, as a treat.
Faith shoved her french toast to the side. “Why haven’t you gone to the cops?”
“I can’t.”
“Why not? I saw the news, you got shot at! What the hell are you involved in?”
“It’s nothing. A misunderstanding. It’ll blow over. And anyway, I don’t know their number.”
Her mouth dropped open. “Seriously? It’s triple zero,” she said slowly. “Like, everyone’s meant to know that.”
That was news to me though with Dad’s distrust of the police I could see why he never bothered teaching me. “I thought that was the ambulance number?”
“It’s the same number. Firies too.”
“So if I call triple zero,” I said, hoping this would derail the conversation and stop Faith from talking about the police, “do you think I can get them to send some hot firefighters my way? I could use some cheering up.” I finished with a wink just as Faith took another bite of her breakfast, making her splutter and nearly spray her food across the table.
“Oh my god,” she exclaimed once her coughing fit subsided, “Is your mind ever not in your pants?”
“Not even one firefighter?” I whined. “I’m in a drought here Faith, a literal drought. Tall, dark and dangerous turned out to be a jerkface, and the gym bro and scary lady were a couple and I’m not interested in couples and just it’s not fair…”
“Two weeks does not make a drought,” Faith told me as she started on the poached fruit accompanying her breakfast, “because I know you snuck off with Sophie at my last house party. And those three creeps are way more trouble than they’re worth.”
