tbh i don’t think he really cares bc he’s got a complex lowkey he knows he’s bigger and tougher and he knows the whole gang knows ponyboy is like. tiny and loserish. they all kinda just enthuse him bc he’s basically an infant but they know damn well that kid is not very tough lol

paul and darry really are staged in hopeless war on opposite sides of the stage with a thousand yard stare before trouble where (at least when i saw it) darry almost dejectedly says "once a greaser always a greaser" and soda looks kind of disappointed about it as the rest of the greasers get hype. i feel like soda does feel bad that darry never "got out" like he wanted?
