pairing: shireen baratheon & lyanna mormont setting: modern, summer au story concept for GoT rare pair milestone madness [8 of 16]
Shireen spent nearly every summer of her youth at Bear Island. The island was far from perfect—jagged rocks, thick woods—but Shireen loved it all the same. Things were better when they were there. Mom and dad didn’t fight as much (later, Shireen would find out that had more to do with Melisandre than actual progress, but it was nice all the same). She had long stretches of free time with no one telling her what she had to do with them. Mostly, though, the best part was that her parents sort of just… forgot about her. Forgot she was a failure, ugly, awkward. Forgot that they were sometimes only on the same side of an issue because she was the issue, the only one they could ever agree on.
The other best part was Lyanna Mormont. She was perfect at solving every problem Shireen ever seemed to have just by being there by her side. Tugging her through the woods or diving into the perpetually too cold waves. So, while the summers at Bear Island were never perfect, they always had her. They were always good. And now, five years later, Shireen finally comes back for a week-long visit in celebration of her new novel My Beating, Summer Heart (which is definitely, 100%, in no way imaginable about Lyanna) to find Lyanna is still there after all this time. She’s just as wild and passionate and good at making all of Shireen’s problems not feel like problems at all.
Summers at Bear Island always had an end, though. There was no avoiding that.
