The Combaticons have a sort of casual friends-with-benefits vibe. When they left (were kicked off) Delphi and ran into Lockdown, the dynamic changed slightly to incorporate Swindle’s…romance isn’t the word…increased relationship status with Lockdown. The gestalt is still casually stable with each other. But not having a whole lot to do in a post-war world, they (minus Swindle) naturally slipped into bodyguard roles. To protect Swindle from himself more often than not. Sometimes they remember to rescue Lockdown. Rare is the day they consider saving literally anyone else.
So, yeah, the Combaticons frag. I hesitate to say that’s all, though, given they are bonded to each other. They’re like a found family if the whole family was comprised of polyamorous goons (affectionate) (they are goofy little war criminals) who, in spite of who they are as people, care about one another. Not one of them is mature enough to admit the mutual feeling is affection. Hence why Swindle told Knock Out the other Combaticons are his sidepieces. That liar is lying; Lockdown is the real sidepiece. (Don’t feel bad for him. Lock has a sexual and financial relationship with a member of a gestalt, a group he also gets to share a berth with from time to time. That mech is living his best life.)
Highly important, yes. Blast Off and Onslaught are the tightest of the group in terms of commitment/romance. No Starscream manipulation necessary! These two just start clicking after the gestalt bond forms and are conjoin at the hip from there on out.
