Back to study!
“Hi, I’m Killua, and I’m going to be your waiter because my parents killed for a living and they got arrested. What can I bring you?”
The couple stared a little nervously at the young silver-haired, despite his smile. It was clearly a wry and forced smile, but that’s another story.
“I think.. I’ll get just a coffee..” The boy said.
“Do you have any dessert?” Asked the girl.
Killua looked at her blinking, surprised by her question. No one dared to ask for a dessert. “It depends.”
“On what?!” The boy frowned, ready to punch him if he was going to say something sexual about his girlfriend.
“On what kind of infection or disease you want to get.” He answered, totally ignoring the glare of the guy, who just made a shocked face. “I don’t remember when the last milk expired, because it surely did expire. And I’m pretty sure I saw the cook sniffing the flour once.”
She widened her eyes and her jaw almost dropped. “I think I’ll go for a coffee, too.”
“Great! Two coffees on their way, then!”
On his way towards the counter, Killua noticed Gon, sitting at a table. His shift wasn’t starting for another two hours.
He moved silently, trying to peer over his shoulder.
The dark-haired boy was writing, completely focused on the words.
“What’re you doing?”
“Studying. I have an exam tomorrow.”
“So you can read?”
Gon glared at him. “Ah. Ah. Ah. So funny.”
“Just kidding, I know you can read. Not so sure about the writing, though.”
“Killua!” He moaned, pouting.
“If I didn’t see you writing it right now, I’d have thought a chicken wrote this text.”
Gon puffed his cheeks. “It’ll be a standardized test. This is my way to revise for the exam.”
“Mh.. There’s a mistake, anyway.” Killua pointed on the sheet.
“What? No, it’s not possible.” He retorted, worried that the other boy was messing with him as always.
“It is, actually. Oxidants are highly electronegative elements to gain electrons, while reducers ‘give’ electrons. Not the other way round.” He tapped on the paper, pointing out the error.
Gon reread his scheme carefully and widened his eyes.
“How do you..?”
“I studied it, duh.” He gestured with a superior smirk.
Gon blinked twice with a blank face. “What do you study? I’ve never asked.”
“Power engineering, but I had a chemistry exam on the first year.” He explained.
“Wow. Sounds cool!”
“Yeah, I like it.”
They smiled at each other, not knowing what to say, but the silence between them wasn’t unpleasant.
Killua heard someone calling him. It was the guy of the couple from before, clamouring for the coffees.
He huffed and rolled his eyes. “I’ll be right back.”
Gon nodded and followed him with his eyes, while the waiter went back and forth between the tables with some orders.
After a few minutes, Killua was standing next to him again. He actually didn’t know why he told he was coming back, since Gon had to study and talking to the dark-haired boy annoyed him in general. Or at least, he thought so.
But, looking at his notebook, he frowned a bit. “Why you stopped?”
“Mh?”
“You stopped writing, and the exam is tomorrow. C’mon, back to study!”
“Oh, yeah..” Gon turned to the sheet, staring at it numbly.
Killua was already moving back to the counter, when the voice of the other waiter stopped him.
“Killua?”
“Mh?” He looked at him. Gon was beaming, as always.
“Thanks..”
Killua felt the corners of his own lips raising. “You’re welcome..”
Then, he widened his eyes with the realisation of what he had just said. He remembered his little bet with Gon, about him getting Killua to answer to his thanking. He wrinkled his nose with a sneer. “Dammit.”
Gon gloated, clenching his fist in victory. “Yes!”
“Fuck you.” He murmured sniggering.
“Oh well, if you’re down for it..”
“Gon!” Killua smacked him lightly on the back of his neck, still giggling. “Study, you sap!”
Gon just laughed more, while Killua went back to work with a little blush on his cheeks.
