A girl was sobbing at her table, while the two boys were watching her from the counter. Killua was standing with crossed arms next to the dark-haired waiter, who was leaning against the surface with his forearms.
“We should do something to make her stop..”
“Yeah, she’s bothering me.”
“Killua! You should do something when people cry..!”
“I rolled my eyes in annoyance. Isn’t it enough?”
Gon sighed. “I mean doing something for them.”
Killua made a face, furrowing his silver eyebrows, and turned to him. “I seem that kind of a person to you? Where did I go wrong?”
The other huffed. “I’ll go!”
Gon walked towards the girl with a smile put on. “Hi! I’m Gon, how can I help you?”
She just sobbed again, looking at the boy, and murmured. “Can you give me my boyfriend back?”
The waiter scratched his cheek a bit, in difficulty. “Uhm.. Unfortunately, no. But! I can bring you something sweet and tasty like a hot chocolate! You know, besides being sweet, cocoa it’s also good for your mood!” He said, then pointed at his own lips and did a curve up movement with his indexes. “It’s on me, just smile for me a bit, would you?”
The girl opened more her eyes and a shy smile showed up on her lips.
Gon returned to the counter and then made the chocolate for her.
“Great, now she’ll think she has a chance with you.” Commented Killua.
The silver-haired boy turned to Gon, blinking with his lips parted but without a word coming to his mind. He felt a weird cold grip in his chest. “Aaahm.. I thought you did it to be kind, not to pick her up?”
“Exactly, but why couldn’t she have a chance with me?” He raised an eyebrow, casting a glance at him with an unreadable expression for Killua.
“Dunno.. Just saying.” The waiter ran his fingers through his silver lock, playing with one for a bit.
For nine days straight, the girl kept showing up at the same table (which was incredible, because every customer who tried to sit in that side quickly understood it wasn’t safe), every day at the same time, ordering the same chocolate.
On the tenth, when she entered the diner, Killua whispered to Gon.
“Oi Gon, she’s here again. She’s kind of creepy..”
“Why? Palm’s such a nice and cute girl!”
“Palm? You know her name?”
“Of course. She always sits in my side of the diner.”
“You mean the war side of the diner. The one where, in less than a week, you destroyed two tables, burnt at least five people with a hot beverage or soup, crashed..”
“Yeah, yeah. Thanks for reminding me. I’m trying my best, you know?” He snorted.
Killua chuckled, bringing his right index to his lips while recalling. “Oh, it’s fun to see you try hard, believe me! Like that one time you slipped on..”
“I got it, Killua.” Gon stuck out his tongue, before going to the tables where Palm was sitting to take her order.
“I don’t even understand why you keep asking her what she wants. It’s the same freaking hot chocolate every day.” Killua commented, while Gon was coming back to make it.
The dark-haired boy turned to him to answer, while spraying swirls of whipped cream on the hot chocolate, but something went terribly wrong.
The cork blew, squirting the cream all over the counter and on them.
Killua jumped back, but not fast enough to dodge it. “Fuck!”
Gon tried to stop the stream, with the only result of getting more covered by whipped cream. When it finally stopped, the two of them just stayed frozen.
Killua licked his upper lip, glaring at him, unable to move or speak, with total disbelief.
Gon shivered. “Killua.. I am really, really sor-“
“I hope you’re more careful in other circumstances, otherwise your bed has to be a real mess.” He commented, taking off some whipped cream from his cheek, causing Gon to flash bright red.
It was a funny sight, considering the cream formed like a moustache shape on the dark-haired boy’s face.
“I’m going to wash it off at least from my hair, the apron had to be burnt already..”
The silver-haired waiter went back from the bathroom just in time to see Gon being roundly slapped in the face by that Palm girl, who left the diner grunting.
Killua got closer to the little window on the kitchen, where Leorio was leaning over to watch the scene.
“Oi Leorio, what did I miss?”
“The girl’s just proposed to Gon.”
“And? Don’t keep me on tenterhooks!” Well, he could guess what followed, but he wanted to know how.
“He turned her down. Saying something like he couldn’t give her what she wanted right now and ‘We can still go on friend-dating’. Then she got up and slapped him.”
“Oh man, how can you blame her?” He whistled. Killua wasn’t actually sure about how he felt, because something in his chest reacted at Gon’s words to Palm, feeling lighter and warmer somewhere. But, at the same time, he felt confused.
Gon came closer to them. He had a bright red hand-shaped print on his cheek.
“I don’t get it, I just tried to be kind..”
“Why did you turn her down? You said she was nice and cute just a moment ago.”
“Yeah, you could’ve at least had a booty call.” Said Leorio.
“Indeed, she is. But I’m not exactly interested in relationships right now, and I don’t do one night stands.”
“It’s not necessary to stand, you can also lay down.”
“What? There’s nothing wrong with having fun from time to time.” He winked at the dark-haired boy.
Leorio chuckled at the blush on Gon’s cheeks.
“I wasn’t interested in her, anyway..”
“I don’t blame you, either. She was creepy.”
“Uhm, guys.. What have you done with the whipped cream? The counter and Gon are a mess.”
“Someone can’t control himself.” Killua joked, crossing his arms with a playful face, and Gon stuck out his tongue.
Leorio handed him a towel. Although, it was probably more stained than clean.
“I’ll be more careful next time, don’t worry.” Gon said, getting a rag and cleaning the counter’s surface.
“I’m sure of it. You mess, you clean.”
“I meant with you.” He winked at the other before leaving, going to the bathroom to wash himself.
Killua just shot up his eyebrows, while his lips curved up in a smirk. He bit his lip, trying to contain it.
“He got you, ha?” Leorio laughed.
“Oh, shut the fuck up, old cook.” He retorted, unable to put off the smile.
