Sketch You draw already, this is just, base. Dont need to fuss over it much, everything is neatend and fixed in the last twp steps anyways. You dont want glaring flaws here either like large anatomy mistakes but small details are likely to get covered so dont stress. colour of sketch unimportant, i usually use not black so i can put it on multiply.
Flats What it says on the tin, really small things dont actually need to be coloured in this one lowkey. Depends on the item, depends on how you feel. Flats can include gradients and blush colours, this is again, case by case. I usually just go by importance. I also sometimes will start with a base gradient and then put my flats over that at a lower opacity but thats also partially if i have a background (think underpaintings, it sets the mood and helps make the colors cohesive)
Roughs Put in secondary gradients and colours (like i put makeup), colour some of those small objects, i start using less pen pressure here but you can also just lower opacity. I also start to put in shadows ! I used two colours for the shadows, a dark colour and a lighter more saturated colour. It adds alot of variation quickly and makes it feel like it has more depth than if you just use one shadow colour (dont even have to use the same family of colours, though its easier, experiment and try new colours and whatnot. Its fun) just go in with low opacity and build it up. Start with bigger shapes and make the brush smaller as you rough in the smaller shadows. Then you can go back into the shadows to add that more saturated colour. That bounce light can be absent but thats all dependent on lighting and stuff. This is pretty soft lighting all things considered 4.color… horrible example but this is where ill take the sketch layer, and ill colour the lines roughly to be more soft against the base layer.. its not very obvious cause her eyes and lips are black so, i kept them dark, but you can kinda see it on the hat in the light part. I would also put correction layers (gradient maps, overlays) here to adjust everything to my liking more. So fun blending layers and stuff. So, a corrective layer
Rough 2 render first pass This is when i merge everything and go over it. Goal hear is to soften lines by painting colours over where the sketch lines are. Also a place to introduce more vibrant colours and variation (i added more orange to her cheeks, smoothed out the rough base colouring. Deepend the edges of the shadows and made the darkest darks more defined.) also filling in the sketchy parts or what got kinda blurred like her nose, eyes, lips, and the other bits of makeup. adding more shadows too (the cast shadow of her nose, under her lips, adding another shadow on the edge of her lips in the dark half.
Bleh ! Another corrective layer. This is where i clean up, erase stray lines from the sketch, darken more shadows, and round things out and make sure the colours reach. (You can see around her face darkend and theres more of a gradient, making her seem more rounded) i also added reflective light to the puffs on her hat. Cleaning up, adding finishing shadows and lights. This would also be the layer id do more gradient maps, blending modes or effect layers. Probably using a much smaller brush at this stage but that depends on the piece
I used two brushes, a pen brush and a medium soft round brush. (My eraser was more of a soft brush bu i used that minimully and could have used the same medium soft one)
okayy there we go... hi guys.. hopefully this is helpful to more people too if youre interested in my process. idk my work flow isnt amazing.
Look, I know that I should be drawing Mephisto as Hatsune Miku, but I'm lowkey terrified of not doing the icon justice 😭
anyone have any tips on drawing clone armor? i'm rubbish at it
Quick Miyu!!
So I was just wondering out of curiosity, have you thought of making a masterlist for each of your art that were requested for each characters? -❄️
Hi lovely ❄️ Anon :3 Yes, I'm sitting at a Masterlist since last week ^^;; I'm about to post it soon (maybe today) BUT it's not complete (missing sketches from last year atm)
And I plan some changes too (: - an upload schedule bc I'll probably have less time next semester T_T - some illustrations - a new theme
With all your heart 💔
