Do you think the PH of Improbable Endeavor would make an adaptation and interview Ratthi if they knew about what he'd gone through

Tom Ferry is an intensely busy guy so it's only Simon Pearl who got to interact with Ratthi (and MB, indirectly)

Also, tbh this piece is more about they accidentally meet each other, and MB kinda blackmailed Ratthi when he said he's too shy to impose Simon's time for a picture together, but turned out Simon knew who Ratthi is so they're like... celebrity meeting another celebrity in a sense

(also all the media Murderbot mentions in the fic is at least semi based on a real thing and the Improbable Endeavour joke remains the dumbest and therefore also my favorite, so thank you for that.) in exchange, you got me thinking about People Knowing Who Ratthi Is and also ignited my love of epistolary internet feed interactions:

I wasn't actually monitoring the people-talking-about-Ratthi-on-the-feed situation, okay? Which, in hindsight, was a terrible idea. But ART was doing it and so were all the humans--or at least I assumed they were because they kept sending each other files about it whenever they saw something they thought was funny. The reason I wasn't doing it was because most of what they thought was funny--and maybe most of the people talking about Ratthi on the feed in general, but I'm not an idiot (usually) so I didn't look--was about how attractive Ratthi was. Ratthi was obviously embarrassed about it, but not badly enough to make anyone stop, so I just blocked the whole thing and told ART to tell me if it saw anyone threatening to murder him. Unfortunately, that meant that when I finally found out how far the whole thing had spread, I was on a MedCenter Argala fan forum. > Ughhhh I stg this show gets less realistic every year. Honestly, if you have some time on your hand, go and watch it because it's really entertaining. Brax is hilarious, hot and so damn adorable. Especially in relation to Chris and to that cat, which totally deserves to land on your dash.

Now, that post you linked… I was soooo not expecting to see some fratt, but now I'm like, HOW DID I NOT THINK OF IT MYSELF? That's so freaking cute to think about… a version of Frank and Matt in some other universe. Thank you for sharing this with me 🧡🧡🧡

Hi i need to know what kind of drugs did you put in that the light is everything because i keep coming back to reread and reread it and every time, especially the part where Murderbot didn't know how to deal with grief it MOVED ME TO TEARS WITHOUT FAIL it's so crazy i'm losing my mind i know you must've received this comment a lot, about how uncanny your Murderbot's voice is, how the whole story just feels like Martha Wells wrote it how incredibly CANON IT IS FROM START TO FINISH

In all seriousness, my main goal with fic is to write the exact thing that I want to read, and what I wanted to read was (1) a fic that sounded as close to a real Murderbot story as possible where (2) Murderbot had to deal with loss! We see it touched on a few times in the books (with Miki, and with ART) but it didn't know Miki terribly well, and it gets ART back before it can really get past the initial rage, so I felt there was still a lot to explore. I'm really pleased by how successful I seem to have been with (1), everyone who has commented and said it sounds like Martha Wells has made my year. As for plot evolution: What had actually happened--why the corporation had kidnapped Ratthi and what their plan was, etc.--was pretty consistent throughout! I always knew I wanted it to be about his work as a scientist rather than being Murderbot-related. But what evolved a lot was the process of the mystery-solving; I didn't outline well and as Murderbot investigated I kept finding subplots and things. So I think I originally planned on six or seven chapters, and ended up with ten...oops.

I also started posting when I had, I think three or four chapters ready to go, which felt super reasonable when I only had two or three more to write! But when it became a ten-chapter fic I was racing to keep my self-appointed deadlines. (My beta was an EXTREMELY good sport about this nonsense.)

6. Favorite title you used

I'm gonna go for this year, only because I'm not the best at titles. It's usually something simple. This year it's "Pardon my French". I instantly got the idea and found it really funny and fitting for the fic.

28. Favorite work you wrote this year?

"Bloody Delicious", no hesitation on this one. I was so excited to write werewolf!Frank again and this time have vampire!Matt. I've had the idea for a long while but didn't know how to approach it. I'm glad I finally got the inspiration and I'm looking forward to writing the next part 😍

29. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?

Ugh, this one is tough. I write pretty simple dialogues and stuff in general, so I'm not really sure. I enjoy writing backstories, though, and I like the one I wrote for Matt in Bloody Delicious. The banter between him and Frank is pretty fun, too. Especially the part when Frank tells him to "bite him", but Matt takes it as an insult and not as Frank meaning it literally 😂.

30. Biggest surprise while writing this year?

Hmm... I think the best surprise was after I wrote "Good boy" based on @kuriusagiart 's little comic, and they drew a little comic for the additional scene I wrote in turn. Getting a visual to something you write is just mind-blowingly amazing, and I was super happy that there was this exchange in inspiration.

🎢 Which of your fics would you call your wildest ride?

I'm going to go for two fics. Both of them are Fratt.

“Nice Suit”. The first fic I've ever written for them, and so completely out of my comfort zone. Here I was, suddenly writing fighting scene, with fire arms or close combat moments. It was intense and only my beta reader (first time having one too) coaching me through it that made it happen. I improved so much thanks to this fic. I also have so much respect for the authors who write action scenes regularly.

“Death in Devil's Suit”, which I wrote for an exchange. Again, so out of my comfort zone, working with themes I'd never have gone for if they hadn't been in my prompts. It's one of the fics I'm proudest of for that reason, too.

🧐 Do you spend much time researching for your stories?

Absolutely! I love doing research. Even for the simplest things, like an actual pizza place in Hell's Kitchen because Frank and Matt are eating pizza in my fic. I love getting visuals for the things I write about. I also once spent 2 hours doing an extensive research on Dublin because I'd just watched “Pilgrimage” and started writing a modern time fic with Jon Bernthal's character. I looked up the public transports and maps and just everything to make the premises as real as possible. I never finished the fic, though 😅

🤗 What advice would you give to new fanfic writers that are just getting started?

Everyone's different, but here's with my 2 cents: take your time, but try to push yourself to finish even the smallest fic. Before posting my first one in 2018, I'd started soooo many stories, written out so many fic ideas, but once I'd close out of the started story, I'd give up on it. It took me weeks to complete that little HP fic that I'd started some years before. I just wanted to finish something for once, and I was so satisfied when I'd done it. Start simple. Just a scene. Not everyone has to write full-fledged novels. Just enjoy the characters you write for.

💔 Is there a fic of yours that broke your heart?

“That's it…”. I don't do unhappy endings. I hate them, actually. But I needed to write it for myself. It's a pretty personal fic and helped me express things happening in my life back then. “What if the hug doesn't happen”. It's a short hankcon fic, but I poured a lot of angst and ugly into it. I'm pretty fond of it, but it hurt to write. It has a happy end, so it made up for the bad.
