seeing the black cat run across the street left you feeling nervous about the rest of halloween night. sure, it was just a small get together with your friends, a movie night to binge until the sun rose, but a) your crush murata fuma would be there and b) it was already eerie out. the fog on campus was so thick you were thinking about wolfman jumping out and kidnapping you, something you were very outspoken about despite your friends dismay, more team jacob than team edward. the jacket you wore was much too thin for the weather, and walking back to the dorms late from the journalism club on campus was not as fun as you’d imagined it. once you got into the dorms and upstairs, the common room you all hung out in, fuma noticed your shivering. he quietly wrapped his arm around you, starting to warm you up the same way you did for him. as the night became darker, you noticed small changes within fuma… again. hairier knuckles, facial hair starting to show up, things like that. by the end of the night… that was not your friend. that was a mess of human and wolf. your heart sped up at the realization and you looked at him like he was the entire world, hugging him. you went to grab more blankets for the movie, and he came with, looking at you like you were prey before whispering “you really are my mate”. holy shit.

"that man sitting at table three ordered a carrot cake," you set down the tray. nicholas, who is standing behind the cash register, taps on the screen to forward the order.

you look around at the cafe you are currently working in. you are along with nicholas the only waiter right now.

"i wish some cute guys would come, you know." you sigh. nicholas frowns, wasn't he good enough?

"if only we would stop serving these old people flavors." your colleague says. she was the one making the desserts.

you lean against the counter, talking about how school was going.

"i remember that school trip! it was crazy. they snuck alcohol with them and got hungover the next day." she tells you.

"nicholas, how about you? anything happen at your arts school?"

"not really, it's really not that special even though they call it arts school," he twirls a pen he found somewhere on the counter.

the ringing of the bell that is hanging above the door makes the three of you look up. a group of boys around your age enter the cafe, chatting about something. your eyes light up, had your wishes been heard?

nicholas notices the sudden change in your face. he frowns once again and immediately approaches their table.

"hey there, can i get you anything to drink?"

your smile falters slightly, a little upset that nicholas had went gone instead of you.

"i will take the drinks to them," you say as you impatiently wait for the barista to make their drinks.

"no, don't." he sternly says.

"why? you don't think i can pull someone?"

"no, it's because i-" he hesitates a little, "because i think i'm in love with you."

and for the first time in your whole life you had finally received a confession from a guy that you, deep down in your heart, liked as well.
