Tbh the only reason why they changed Velanna to Anders in Dragon Age 2 is that they were afraid of touching the topic of racism (especially when the revolutionary character would be a brown woman), so they choose the fantasy kind-of-racism and put mentally disabled man as rebel character, so nobody will call them racist for being almost only negative towards this character in narrative.

And it's so fucking sucks. Anders is my favorite character from Dragon Age, but I would gladly exchange him for Velanna, like, the plot would be SO FIRE. But yeaaaah, we can't have any media that show revolution realistically- we can get glorious, happy win over evil bastards, or bad, mentally ill activist, who is evil because he's terrorist.

Really, I need to finally see some nuance. Dragon Age 2 would be perfect if they only noticed that Anders's crime have achieved a lot of good and was also well motivated (when still pointing at brutality of it). And it would be nice if people acknowledged that you can't achieve anything peacefully when your oppressor uses all his power against you.

AND IT WOULD BE SUPER-PERFECT IF THEY LET VELANNA BE THIS REBELIOUS CHARACTER. OR TO LET THEM COOPERATE AT LEAST. LIKE JUST GIVE ME SOME CONTENT WITH HER OMFG.

Did anyone else get introduced to these games as a teenager in super #mage rights circles and then, upon playing the games as an adult able to form their own opinions, realize Anders actually genuinely sucks. or is that just me

I am tired of people downplaying the destruction Anders' bomb does to Kirkwall. He killed HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE. Not 5, not 10, HUNDREDS. A good chunk of Hightown was destroyed by the blast. Debris rained all over the city including Lowtown and Darktown killing innocent civilians.

It's cool for people to like Anders' character (I think he's rather complex and those are my favorite characters to analyze!), its fine if you agree with him and side with him in his ultimate decision, but let's not downplay what he did. It's okay for your fave to be problematic.

The only reason why hasna hawke is 6’7 is because I needed anders to look more of a fool than he already is calling her a “little girl”. Who exactly are you talking to like that mr mayo misogynist

its time i talk about what would get my hawke, sinag, cancelled lol and it's that she killed an/ders

it's funny bc she went from an an/dersmance hawke to doing that

i replayed da2 before vg dropped and i did a massive overhaul/reboot of sinag's character. i didn't feel connected to her bc i leaned in on the "haha purple hawke" concept bc it seemed to be what fandom enjoyed most

sinag was purple in the very beginning but Because Kirkwall she turned red by the end. i always saw an immigrant family story w/ the hawkes so i went that direction and made sinag the angry eldest immigrant daughter character

she was chill w/ an/ders at first, and despite having some similarities in their beliefs (templars & meredith are corrupt, the gallows is terrible) she disagreed w/ things and an/ders is combative when you disagree and sinag's personality just doesn't mesh with that

because sinag fell in love w/ fenris she always chose him first. she also found great comfort in merrill and sebastian's friendships, especially when leandra died - so an/ders being hostile towards them didn't help

they hated each other by the end

sinag lost so much by act 3 (carver w/ the templars and they were no longer on speaking terms, leandra) that she was extremely protective with what she had. when an/ders did what he did he hurt sebastian, who she considered family at that point, so when he was like "kill him pls" she did lol. it's that simple

sinag is so jaded and hardened and bloodthirsty by the end that tbh it was inevitable that would be her reaction to it

Everyone talks about how annoying Solas fans are but lbr the most insufferable DA fans are Anders fans

ng| but there's far more criticism of cullen than anders especially these days. All the BNFs are anders glazers and stans and ran off a lot of BIPOC in the dragon age fandom with their racist antics.

The argument isn’t even about whether he's poorly written or handled either anymore imho as anders fans themselves hide behind him being "poorly written" whenever the situation suits them (ie anders approving of fenris being sold into slavery) or him being vehemently hated by the writers to excuse how utterly awful he is as a character and person when arguably there are worst treated races in the games themselves!!

obviously people in this fandom today weren't there when a lot of anders fans co-opted BLM and other black power movements to make anders seem as if he's this perfect revolutionary when in actuality he's a weird, emotionally manipulative, misogynistic racist who spends most of his time fucking whining about how oppressed he is when he’s a fucking white man who’s unbearable to talk to or fucking be around if you aren’t someone who thinks fandom is activism.

I’m really just sick and fucking tired of people being snooty as fuck and all *akshully cullen is well liked and super popular so you should be able to accept by dogshit criticism* just say you hate him and go yall are annoying af
