ooooooo u wanna talk about dick and jason grieving the past, running out of the present and having no hope for their future so bad
Buddy you are SO LUCKY I’M ON MY LUNCH BREAK BC YEAH I DO
Just. They’re the only two to remember what it was like for them. The good and the bad. Dick will never fight with Bruce like that then storm out again. But he’ll also never sneak back to smuggle Jason out of his window and take him to go see a movie. Jason will never stay weekends at the tower where Dick takes him to museums. And they missed out on so much that never happened. Dick never took Jason to get his first tattoo. Jason didn’t come to him asking about how to apply to college. Dick didn’t get to see his little brother grow up. And really neither did Jason. Because as much as Dick wants to say he’s an adult. He was young too.
And now. Now they fight. A lot. Together and against each other. And every time, for at least a moment, Dick sees his baby. With curly hair and and infectious laugh and a bright yellow cape. And the tragedy is that they don’t know how to be normal. How to interact outside of fighting. It’s all they have now.
And Jason. He wants to hate Dick so bad. But he just can’t. Because despite the fighting, despite the conflicting morals, that’s still his big brother. It’s still the brother he went to when Bruce was being Bruce. And even though he can’t do that anymore, he knows that more than anyone, Dick understands. And like what I said about Dick seeing Jaybin, I think it goes the other way too. Jason sees his older brother. The brother that was so angry sometimes, but made sure Jason was never the target of anger. The older brother that shielded and protected Jason. The older brother he loved. That he still loves.
Just. It can never be the same and they both want it to be so bad. Them mourning what was as they look each other in the eye.
