Okay, for very good reason people are talking about that Other thing that happened in Andor last night, but…
Can we talk about the characterization of Saw Gerrera?
I’m really disappointed by it. His characterization amongst canon is only made even more incoherent and inconsistent by the scene with the Rhydonium. I can see the addition of Saw Gerrera as being in a work camp on Onderon pre-Clone Wars, sure—although I’m not sure that makes any sense based on how Onderon is depicted—but making him essentially crazy because of Rhydonium exposure is just bizarre!
I sort of get the metaphor they were going for I guess, but it doesn’t make any sense with the rest of his characterization. His motivations throughout the rest of canon have never been shown to be wholly irrational, even when I believe they’ve essentially been presented as an Anarchist Straw Man. But now all of his actions and the philosophy and rationality and human motivation behind them—which do exist—are essentially being subsumed into him just being cognitively compromised by the Rhydonium?
Is there something I’m missing here?
