You let your true feelings for Crosshair slip out in a moment of passion, and you're not sure how he's going to respond.
For the Canon x OC ask game!!! For Crosshair and Dara, could we get, 6, 8, 13, and 19?
Thanks for asking!! I'm not sure if I can answer most of this without spoilers for you for the story, so beware! Possible NSFW below the cut as well, knowing them.
6. What is their favorite thing about the other? (Physical/personality/habits/etc etc)
Crosshair's favorite thing about Dara is her competence. He values his own abilities, so he is impressed by the areas in which she excels and feels a kinship with her when seeing how good she is. He also eventually sees her commitment to a cause as its own kind of loyalty that is different from his own brand of loyalty, which has always been a lot more personal/relationships-based. Physically, he really likes her hair; he feels self-indulgent and like he's gotten access to a privileged kind of intimacy when he's able to touch it.
Dara's favorite thing about Crosshair is his intensity and humor. She has to maintain a lot of emotional control in her everyday life even though she has a lot of difficult feelings underneath the surface. Crosshair also has a lot of difficult feelings, and some people might view him as being closed off, but he actually expresses himself a lot (even if most of what he's expressing is ugly or angry). His directness and demanding nature is unapologetic and for Dara, as much as it also pisses her off at first, she finds that to be a bit of a relief, since so much of her life is obfuscation at the time that they meet. She also (secretly, at first) finds his sarcasm to be very funny. Physically, she finds Crosshair's irreverent sort of slouch to be annoyingly attractive.
8. What two songs would represent their respective feelings towards each other?
Crosshair is down bad for Dara. On the one hand, it's obsessive and possessive: since he meets her pretty soon after he leaves the Empire (and right after escaping after losing Mayday in this alt timeline), he's feeling a desperate need to be in control in at least one area of his life. But his feelings for this reason are also kind of all-consuming and even almost pathetic. So I might pick "Moon Song" by Phoebe Bridgers:
"So I will wait for the next time you want me/ Like a dog with a bird at your door."
Dara, on the other hand, is slightly more well-adjusted (or maybe more repressed, depending on how you look at it). She still cares for him deeply, but is a little less willing to go all-in on her feelings, because she's not willing to shift her priorities and is frightened by the idea of doing so. So I might say "First Love/Late Spring" by Mitski:
"Please, hurry, leave me, I can't breathe/Please don't say you love me."
13. What is one of the most pivotal moments when they are well within the timeline of their romantic relationship?
This would be a major spoiler for what is about to come in the next few chapters so I won't say the two that immediately come to mind. But instead I'll say something I've already published, which is when Dara makes a choice that puts her in danger because she doesn't feel like she can be honest with Crosshair and the rest of the Batch and doesn't want to get them involved. The choice she makes causes Crosshair to think that she is choosing her loyalty to someone else over him and also that she was going to leave him without saying anything. In the aftermath of this event and the blow up, Crosshair is finally able to be more honest with her about his feelings, and Dara is able to accept that sometimes she needs to make some choices for herself.
19. What animals would they choose to represent each other?
Dara would probably choose a nexu for Crosshair. He's very feline; he's lithe, powerful, and very dangerous (not to mention his superior vision), but she also has enough experience with wild animals to know how to handle them.
For Dara, Crosshair would pick some sort of owl. She knows how to fit into her surroundings well and essentially camouflage herself, but that doesn't mean she's not a dangerous predator to the right prey. She also is clever and sees the big picture easily, getting a bird's eye view of situations.
I only just noticed there are two 13s on the post đ cuz I tried to avoid the spoiler questions! The 13 I was asking was "What is your favorite trope or aspect about their dynamic" How funny.
LOL I didnât notice that! Well as for the other question, they are pure enemies to lovers trope and I threw in a few fun tropey bits (fake dating/kissing to avoid detection, etc). In terms of writing for them though it has been a lot of fun for me to think through how I can use their sex lives to mirror their psychologies and different aspects of the relationship and their insecurities at different moments. Also, importantly, both of them refuse to mention the obvious hurdles or complications in their relationship until they have major blowout fights about them, theyâre super avoidant so even though they know these issues are likely to come up they just do not deal with it until the worst possible moment. So thatâs a lot of fun for me to write.
You can't tell me Crosshair hasn't tried sticking a toothpick into one of Echo's cranial ports not long after he joined the batch. Crosshair would do it, he strikes me as the type.

Hereâs some FennterâŠI like to exhume old drawings from my sketchbook and attempt to revive them in Procreate. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnât.
This is from a headcanon I have for Hunter based on that scene from the book where he and Phee are walking around Pabu
I think that Hunter floats aimlessly in the water while basking in the weather to unwind. That he lays and feels all of the slight changes in the waterâs current and temperature. That he lets the sea breeze dampen the skin above the water and then feels the change of winds on his misted face. That he listens to all the warbled sounds under the water of fish moving and boats crawling. That he smells the salty, fishy air. And that he just lets all of his senses do what they want as he drifts away, only moving if he needs to. I like to think he becomes so still that fish donât realize heâs alive, and that he can just graze them as he wishes without their notice.
Wrecker grew up in the Bronx with his three brothers, the son of New Zealand immigrants, a few streets over from his older cousins Echo and Fives. He was conscripted into the Army in 1942 at eighteen and was quickly pulled into the Office of Strategic Services by Captain Rex. Alongside his brothers, he became an integral part of the 99th OSS Operational Group â the Bad Batch. His specialty among them is explosives, finding new and creative uses for each bomb in the arsenal.
Not long after being drafted, he was caught in a bad accident. It left scarring across the left side of his body, cost him the sight in his left eye, and took most of the hearing in his left ear.
Of the four brothers, Wrecker is the loudest and the hardest to miss. He is quick to laugh, quick to act, and genuinely fond of just about everyone he meets. While in active duty, he wrote to his younger sister Omega as much as he could, sending letters stuffed with small trinkets found on missions and drawings heâd made for her.
After the war, he took a job at the Copacabana as a bouncer, a perfect position for his large stature, and one that continues to keep his family close.

There's An Echo In Here- Pirate batch part 10 or maybe 11
I'm back! This is the first of four mini chapters to round out this installment of the pirate batch series. I present, We Need An Adult!
1 of 4
It was on the journey to Kamino that Echo started to notice something⊠troubling about the Bad Batch. Something that activated a long-dormant instinct to protect. The realization was slow to dawn, but each and every time it hit him, it hit him like a cannonball to the diaphragm: They were thrice-dammed, honest to karking force, babies. The terrifying, eccentric, frighteningly competent crew of renegades who had single-handedly saved Echo from captivity and experimentation twice in the short time heâd known them were also deeply terrifying children in desperate need of supervision.
It started with Hunter. After imploring Echo to think about joining his crew on a permanent basis, Hunter left him to wander the ship as he saw fit. He made Tech surrender his study to Echo as a sleeping quarters, not wanting to subject him to the shared bunk room just yet, and encouraged him to rest, read, or socialize as he saw fit. Thus, Echo began his investigations.
Hunter was, weirdly, the most obvious. It was written in his easy, trusting smile. It was evident in his too-bit coat and the frankly juvenile amount of skull motifs on his hat, bandanna, not to mention on his face. The dark skull tattoo that obscured half of the manâs face made him look exceptionally intimidating in the right light, but also handily disguised the lingering traces of baby fat on his cheeks. Echo had assumed that Hunter was a young man trying to look like an older one. Hunter was, in fact, barely out of adolescence and trying to look like a young man.
Hunter put up a good show. He seemed tough, calm, and self-assured. He was competent as a fighter and as a captain, but Echo was beginning to see his demeanor for the mask it was.
It was the following night where the mask slipped and fell completely. Echo was leaning against the railing on the upper deck, looking out at the stars, when a sudden movement in his periphery broke through his musings. He turned to see Tech frantically making towards Hunterâs cabin door, hauling a large canvas bag marked with an aurebesh âH.â Tech opened the door without knocking and, in his hurry, didnât close it behind him.
Curiosity getting the best of him, Echo crept up behind Tech and slipped through the door into the pitch-dark cabin. In front of him, Tech stiffened and turned abruptly.
âLeave now or close the door at once,â Tech whispered, so quietly he nearly missed the words. âAnd donât make a sound.â
Echo closed the cabin door as quietly as he could manage. The faint thump of the wood was met with a quickly bitten off whine from somewhere within the dark room.
Echo stood still to let his eyes adjust. As they did, the scene began to take form: Tech, crouching silently behind the narrow bed; Hunter, laying sprawled on his face, head barely visible beneath a pile of bedding; Tech, reaching into the canvas bag and pulling out some unidentifiable object.
âHunter,â Tech barely breathed the word. âPlease, surface so I can help you.â
From the pile of bedding emerged a low whimpering sound of protest. Tech merely waited however, and after a few painfully long moments, the pile shifted and Hunterâs face peeked out. Tech silently held out the object and tied it around Hunterâs head. It looked to Echo like a bandanna similar to the ones worn beneath the captainâs tricorn hat.
Hunter grabbed at the soft strip of cloth, tugging it over his ears and across his tightly screwed up eyes. He pawed blindly at Tech, who reached into the bag and carefully set a canteen of water and a small container of unknown herbs within easy reach.
Echo stood silently and watched the strange display of care unfolded. Everything he had gathered about Tech and Hunter both was being rapidly rewritten. The scholar, so bizarre and tactless in his discussion of Echoâs prosthetics, carefully tending to the distress of his captain. And Hunter, who sauntered through the world like there was no bigger fish than he, looked so painfully small and heartbreakingly young with his blanket nest and blindfold.
The silence was nearly hypnotic, the heavy atmosphere undisturbed until-
âTECHHHH!â
The booming voice of Wrecker broke the stillness.
âTech you need to get over here REALLY SOON or weâre gonna be in TROUBLE!â
Tech flinched at the volume as Hunter gave a low whine of pain. Anxiously resettling his spectacles, Tech began to flail his hands at Echo in the dim light. To his utter bewilderment, he recognized the movements. Republic battle signs.
I pursue, he signaled.
You hold position.
He hesitated, before adding, Important.
Echo nodded dumbly, and Tech hastened from the room. Before the door shut behind him, Echo heard a hissed reprimand to âshut your mouth or face the consequences.â No further exclamations were forthcoming from beyond the cabin.
If the atmosphere was oppressive before, Echo felt positively suffocated now he was left alone with the incapacitated captain. In the quiet, he found his mind wandering. He landed on a foggy, untethered snatch of memory from his childhood. He didnât remember a single detail of where heâd been. All he could summon to mind was a vague image of a face nearly identical to his own, a sense of heavy sadness, and somewhere, a grandfather clock punctuating the silence at unforgivably regular intervals.
Tick

Tick
Tock
Outside, He heard the sound of shouting and felt the impact of something that shook the room. A cannon fired.
Tick
Tock
Tick
The sounds of combat reached him through the heavy wooden door, and Echo wasnât sure if they came from the Marauder or from his own half-a-memory.
Tock
Maybe both, he decided. Probably both.
Tick-
âMm-mm.â
âHunter?â Echo whispered.
âEh-â the huddle of blankets tried again. âEh-oh?â
He took a half step towards the bed, as quietly as he could manage on metal legs. âYeah, Iâm-Iâm here.â
With scary accuracy for a man doing a worthy impersonation of a surfaced blobfish, Hunterâs hand shot out of the blankets and snatched Echoâs one remaining flesh limb. Echo was yanked closer to the bed as Hunter tried to use him as a ladder, clumsy hands pawing at him as he struggled to rise.
As soon as he realized what the man was trying to do, Echo clamped his hand on Hunterâs heaving shoulder and pressed him back down.
âWoah, Capân,â he said as quietly as physically possible. The words still drew a flinch from his escaping charge. âYou donât look seaworthy just now.â
âGotta âelp mâcrew,â the pain in his voice hurt Echo too. ââElp me up.â
âNo can do,â Echo pushed him down again, and this time, he stayed where he was put. âI donât know whatâs up but Tech was pretty clear about wanting to keep you here.â
âMph,â Hunter settled back into the bed, but didnât release Echoâs hand. Instead he pressed the captured palm to his own forehead and grumbled. âHead. Better now.â
âNot better enough,â was Echoâs verdict. âI can help them if you want? Tech will forgive me if you said you ordered it.â
Hunterâs head shook beneath his palm. âMmmno he won't. Stay.â
Echo was pulled again, this time he was nearly yanked on top of Hunter. He regained his balance, taking a knee beside Hunterâs head. Hesitating, not wanting to overstep his fragile connection to the man, he started to rub circles onto his forehead with his thumb.
