star trek > star wars
#off-topic-tuesday means I can talk about nerd stuff.
The Star Trek universe is more diverse and open, it has room to course correct. It allows for varying stories with different tones and perspectives. Something went wrong when They tried to explain the force with science midichlorians but didn’t really give it rules. Kylo Ren was pretty cool, and Daisy Ridley could have been fine with the right plotline. But come on you guys, she's Palpatine's daughter AND he's still alive...whatever.
But you know what, I still loved watching those Star Wars films in the theater. I liked Reylo - hush, just let me like it. But, the main struggle depicted in the films strives to be a tight story about one family and their fight against one dude. Choosing that path is limiting and highlights imperfect narrative choices.
It’s interesting when characters make a bad decision. It’s not as interesting when you totally re-write them. It’s OK for a hero to fall and have to live with the consequences, we just don’t want to see him flounder for 25 years? then die. But then all that “Luke, The Lost Years” content (enter Mara Jade, exit Mara Jade via Jacen Ben Solo) wouldn’t be available for development. I see what you did there, and I don’t like it.
Plus, I rock Andorian cosplay.
Me getting ready to exit my Chicago hotel room, and walk through the Hyatt lobby to C2E2. Reminding myself that there is nothing wrong with being blue.
