Music was playing, people were dancing, Krieg was... doing something weird with a unicycle and a hammer - it was a pretty normal celebration in Sanctuary. As much of a party guy as Axton was, he couldn't get into this one. Something was missing, and it only took him a few moments to realise that Maya wasn't here. Even when she was there, she'd usually only stand in a corner and give the others a look that seemed judging but was in reality only one of confusion and curiosity. He supposed she'd never really 'gotten it,' but given her upbringing, he didn't blame her. His past had prepared him for parties. Dahl's military academy had held parties almost every weekend, and Axton had only missed a couple in the entirety of his time there. Good friendships has been made and broken over the countless cans of beer he'd consumed in those days - the ones he should have held onto for longer. His mind drifted back to his training. When it was pulled back into the atmosphere around him, he couldn't get back into the swing of things. Instead, he decided to look for Maya. A confirmative nod from Zer0 on his way out told Axton that he wasn't the only one worried. Good. It was a cold night, and he'd chosen to wear only a tank top on his upper half, something he came to regret quickly. He wouldn't do anything so weak as to warm himself up just yet - he had a mission to finish. It was a short walk to his first destination of the search for Maya. He arrived at Marcus' place and made his way down the stairs. It was warmer in here. Good. Marcus wasn't at his desk, which Axton found suspicious. Had he been back at the party? He couldn't remember. He heard gunshots from the firing range and realised that Marcus was likely in there. Expecting to see the gun runner, he stepped into the firing range - instead, his search was cut short. He leaned against the doorframe.
"You okay?"
The question was short, and probably loaded. He knew that. He'd been getting weird vibes from Maya for a while now. She was never really... right. Had she ever been? He couldn't remember a time when she'd smiled simply for the sake of it. He took a couple of steps into the room and crossed his arms.
"You're missing the party. Krieg did something hilarious. People're really... uh... gettin' their party on."
