while i'm upset about shinwell's writing again can we also talk about andre? about the later reveal in the show that marcus & andre's father was abusive and how the show engages with how that has clearly affected marcus and was part of the reason he chose to go into law enforcement but because the show drops andre completely after using his near-death for drama (yet again using Black male "criminals" as fodder for easy gang drama. btw) we never get to meaningfully engage with how his father being abusive may have affected andre as a child/his affiliation with gangs/explored the genuinely interesting connection between andre as someone who is genuinely caring and loyal who made bad choices due to a bad situation and is working to do better in a world where that is almost impossible. "but andre is a side character this show isn't about him" we LITERALLY get a whole brother-themed mini-arc with sherlock & mycroft and alfredo and his off-screen brother we've never previously heard of or met who sherlock apparently has beef with. when we could have instead revisited marcus and andre
