George Gush passed away recently. He was one of the writers who shaped modern wargaming, a military historian and gamer with a particular focus on the Renaissance/pike & shot era, as seen on the dust jacket of his A Guide to Wargaming (1980, above). He authored the WRG War Games Rules (1490-1660) published in 1976.
I've been planning a Renaissance project so I return often to Gush's old "Renaissance Warfare" articles from Airfix Magazine for advice on basic unit organization, formations, equipment, flags, and clothing colors.

The family of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student David Hogg was swatted Tuesday morning, prompting deputies to respond to their Parkland home.
“Swatting” is the practice of making a false report to emergency services in the hope of getting a S.W.A.T. team or other large number of police officers sent to someone else’s location.
Late last December, an online gamer falsely reported a hostage situation at an opponent’s house. The police arrived in force. 28-year-old Andy Finch (unarmed) opened his front door to see why there were so many police lights and sirens outside. The police promptly shot him dead.
The man who made the false report was charged with manslaughter. (No charges for the police officer who killed Finch.)
Now, David Hogg is one of the more outspoken student survivors of February’s massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. He has become a prominent advocate for gun control and against gun violence, organizing events such as the March for Our Lives: Road to Change. Needless to say, he is not popular with certain pro-gun entities.
So earlier this week somebody called the police anonymously, and falsely reported that someone had broken into the Hogg home and was holding the family hostage with an AR-15 assault rifle. The police arrived en masse--with their own assault rifles--and kicked down his door, prepared for a shootout with a heavily armed intruder.
Fortunately, David and his family weren’t home at the time.
Still, there was every possibility that David Hogg could have ended up just like poor Andy Finch.
