Artist: Andrew Cornell Robinson
Recently, Inez Suen Creative Agency had the pleasure of working with Brooklyn based ceramicist and multimedia artist, Andrew Cornell Robinson. So, one early morning this spring, I paid a visit to Andrew’s studio. The comfort and wabi-sabi beauty of his creative space was my first impression of the artist, as I was introduced to Andrew’s studio before I actually met him face to face. In lieu of Andrew’s presence, the studio itself thoroughly expresses his playful yet deliberate character. It is light filled, and spacious, but filled with bits of Andrew’s presence. A French press, newspaper clippings, postcards, and of course, his art. All of Andrew’s works — from tiny, succulent-filled pinch-pots to a wall-mounted altar— show unique and perfectly placed imperfections combined with deliberate, beautiful details. His works each show his artistry, and no two pieces are the same. He utilizes his works to spin various narratives and draw a nostalgic sentiment from viewers and users of his work. Later, for an event organized by ISCA with UBS and the Brooklyn Museum I Met Andrew in person. His character matches his works: cheerful yet deliberate. He has the power to capture a crowd’s ears with his humor, wit, and purposeful speech. Similarly, his pieces are equally captivating due to their cheerful, engaging appearance which is imbued with layers of meaning and consequence
