DUM-E wasn’t really sure what the other android meant, but he knew his dad wasn’t always the nicest person. He nodded and stepped aside, letting Dyns in. “I need to ask Tony first, but it should not be a problem. We have a lot of space.” DUM-E knew his own dad liked his android friend, but he had been taught to always ask Tony first, so he would.

Dyns grinned and hopped inside. He’d decided earlier in his walk over that he wanted to hop today. And so he was. Not all the time or it would take to long to get places. But certainly more often than normal. He signed, bouncing in place. “Ok. If Mr. Stark doesn’t want me to stay over that’s ok.” He wasn’t sure it was ok. But his programming said very strictly to not be at a place come dark. He needed to be home, or at a friends house. He couldn’t just... not be somewhere. If he couldn't stay here, he’d have no choice but to go home again. And he didn’t want to be there today. “Are you really going to go to school? With normal kids?”

Steve grinned. “DUM-E was always a sweet bot and now he’s even sweeter. It’s easy to forget the little guy isn’t going to grow up. He’d be a real heart-breaker some day.”

Even before he got his android form, DUM-E had a tendency to space out, but now there was so much more that he got to experience and more things that got stuffed in his mind and he then he suddenly just… drifted off.

That was exactly what had happened when Steve suddenly picked him up. At first it surprised him, but seeing who it was, he smiled. “Hello, Steve. Why are you picking me up?”

Steve grinned. The bot had been cute as a bot. Always sweet. Always seemed curious and helpful. As an actual child he was only cuter. And a lot lighter. He could actually lift the robot now.

“You were staring at the cabinet. I thought you wanted to reach something up there. Want me to put you back down?”

Taking his first breath, the android opened his eyes. The first thing he saw was Tony's face. It looked different this way, his new eyes being much more sensitive and working more like human eyes than sensors. A bright smile spread across his lips (despite that he shouldn't know how to smile). "Tony." || androiddum-e

Tony let out a breath he’d not known he’d been holding. It worked. At least it seemed to. There would have to be tests. Many more tests. How much coffee has he had in the last day? What time is it?

“It’s three in the afternoon on Thursday, Sir.” JARVIS supplied helpfully. Which meant he’d asked about the time out loud. So a lot of coffee then. Thursday. He’d started working on transferring DUM-E to the new body Wednesday morning. Where did the time go?

“How do you feel DUM-E?” Tony reached out, carefully helping the little bot.... android, sit up. He hoped it was DUM-E. All of him. He could lie to others all he wanted but JARVIS, U and DUM-E all probably knew better. He’d transferred his bot into the new body because there had been no other choice. It was that or lose the AI forever. If the transfer hadn’t worked appropriately, he might have lost the little guy anyway.
