1. Orion always wanted a daughter, a secret not even Walburga knew, and while his nieces filled up that hole it was Andromeda he was most fond of. He spoiled her just a tad more, spent time with just her, allowed her to speak her mind even if at times it was wrong, even if he and Cygnus fought over all of this. Andromeda was the closest thing he had to a daughter.

2. She broke his heart when she ran off and married Ted Tonks. Not just a knife to his back, but to his front as well. He also felt guilty. Maybe there was something he could’ve done to stop this from happening. As much as he wanted to hate her, he couldn’t, but he will forever act like he does.

3. Learning that Andromeda was in Aversio was another low blow, but he hasn’t revealed this to any other member of the Black family. He has no idea why. Orion knows he should tell Cygnus and her sisters, but he can’t, and he can’t help but think this is his way of protecting her. He doesn’t hate her, but he hates how much he cares for her still.

4. Orion knows he will never get the chance to get to know Dora. Meeting her wasn’t enough just the one time, but he will take what he can get. He hopes that when he has his own grandchildren one day that he will be able to make up for the time he missed with Dora, and maybe make up for being a shitty father.

30 October, 1981 Andromeda,

Would you so kindly clear whatever it is you have scheduled the weekend after next? It is, as you know, almost my birthday and I want you and Ted to take me out to dinner. Dora, of course, can be my date.

I miss you. Things have been…busy, I suppose. And I know, I know. I don’t write enough. Save yourself the lecture, yeah? Oh, and tell Dora I’m bringing her lots of sweets. My Halloween gift to her.

PS. Dinner is more of a demand than a request.

The correspondence was never sent, never reached its intended recipient. Halloween came and went, dragging in November, the deaths of James and Lily Potter and the arrest of Sirius Black in tow. Goodbye, for Andromeda Tonks, was meeting the wild eyes of Voldemort’s most loyal servant as he stared back, laughing, on the cover of the Prophet - and the hollow silence that refused to lift.

One Mother to Another // Andromeda & Walburga

She hadn’t expected to run into a forgotten memory that day. If she had, she would have worn a more extravagant outfit, not the dress she had already worn out to a few different functions. She would have worn the new emerald green number she got custom-made, not this simple black dress with the sash and lace around the neckline. She would have worn something much more impressive and intimidating, even if she was just out in order to order some things for the latest event she and Druella were throwing.

At first she didn’t notice the girl, not until she ran in front of her chasing some feather that had gotten away from her. In Walburga’s haste, she almost plowed straight through the young girl. Instead she stopped just in time to watch the girl bend down and pick up her prize, a wide grin on her face. With a disapproving look, Walburga scanned the crowd for the girl’s mother. Parents of the next generation were so careless, letting their children run off in a time of war?

“Who’s child is this?” Walburga called out, her icy stare causing the child to keep from speaking out loud to her, thankfully. She had barely liked her own children child at that age, let alone someone else’s uncontrollable offspring. She raised an eyebrow, looking down her nose at the child once more. “Are you a runaway or have you just wandered too far for your mummy to notice?” Salazar she was probably the product of careless breeding as well as careless parents... and did her hair color just change?
