Help us bring our first feature length fantasy film to life! | Crowdfunding is a democratic way to support the fundraising needs of your community. Make a contribution today!
So you know how I’ve been mentioning helping a friend with character concept art, and trying to spend time in Pittsburgh to work on a project?
My friends Andy Hickly and Sara Leonard (of Ophelia Street Productions/Much Ado About a Webseries,) have been in talks for about a year over making their first feature-length film. And now City East has been officially announced! In the words of the creators, City East is “a feature length urban fantasy full of magic, monsters, humor, and horror. Split into four separate yet interconnected stories, City East follows the Grim Reaper as she seeks to fulfill a dying man's last wish, a trio of guardian spirits fighting against the darkness, an inhuman psychopath hired to hunt down a thief on the run, and a world-weary street musician struggling with immortality. As this imaginative quartet unfolds--each one affecting the others both directly and indirectly--their individual tales weave together to form a dark, poignant fable about life, death, good, and evil.”
I’ve chatted with Andy about his script and vision for the film many times as it’s progressed, and trust me, this is an indie film you’ll want to get behind. And your donations are greatly appreciated! They are doing flexible funding, so you can look forward to seeing City East even if you don’t donate, but these guys are working on fresh-out-of-college budgets. Every dollar helps! As is said on the page, the funding’s going to equipment, editing software, costumes, and other extremely important aspects of film. So your donation could mean the difference between quality equipment and not so much. It could mean the difference between convincing visual effects, and again, not so much. It could mean the difference between a character’s outfit being perfect, and being something the actor grabbed from their closet. And this is a movie that really relies on visuals, so you know your money is important to the project.
There are a lot of awesome perks as well, so go check it out! Just a one dollar donation gets you a download of an original song from the film and a thank you. (That’s less than a good song costs on Itunes.) And the more you donate, the more things you’ll get, like a download of the movie, a poster, a photo booklet, an original prop from the film, and so on. (My concept art may even be involved in one of those rewards. It isn’t definite yet, but it’s a possibility.)
Go check it out! Right now they’re at 115$. If every one of my followers were to donate just a dollar, we could have five times that amount. If half of my followers were to donate 5$, we could get this film to almost 1/3rd of its fundraising goal. And if all of my followers were to donate 5$, we could get this campaign to more than 3,000$ of its 5,000$ goal. That would make a huge difference to the film! I know that’s a tall order, but if you would take a minute and consider donating even just a dollar, it would mean so much to me, and to this project :)
Feel free to take a second and read through their IndieGoGo page here to see if you want to help make this story a reality. You can also check out their completed webseries, Much Ado About a Webseries, on Youtube and on tumblr. Follow Much Ado’s Facebook or check out their blog for even more information.
I’ve been working with Andy to create concept art for this film, am an Associate Producer, and if things work out for me, I will be going to Pittsburgh to act in it and/or help with the technical aspects of the film. So as you can imagine, I care a lot about this project, and would be absolutely thrilled to see it reach its fundraising goals :) This film can only fully realize the vision the creators have and be the best it can be with your help. I really believe in this project, the more I learn about it the more I love it. So please consider supporting us! The donations close June 20th, so you have 19 days to think about it. And if you do end up donating, shoot me a message so I can say thanks :D
If you have any questions, feel free to shoot me a message :) Thank you so much for reading! ^.^

P.S. It’s also my birthday tomorrow, so if anyone feels like giving a pretty cheap gift, go donate even just 1$ to City East. It would mean so much to me! :) Thank you!!
P.P.S. This story also involves a lot of strong, diverse, and deep female characters, making up at least half of the leading characters. So if you want to support an empowering and encouraging film where the women can be just as diverse and interesting as the men, consider supporting City East :)
