#OnThisDay in @chicagocubs history ▸ The Cincinnati Reds become the first baseball team to fly a chartered airplane to an away game when nineteen members (six players opted to travel via train) of the Reds board two American Airlines Ford Tri-Motors for a three-game series against the Cubs.

Reds’ General Manager Larry McPhail (grandfather to former Cubs President and CEO, Andy McPhail) believed that the quicker air travel would give the players more rest between games.  The Reds won two out of the three games in the series.

It's Official, the Phillies Will Not Lose 100 Games!
