So one of the things that has changed since I’ve stopped my benzodiazepines is that my absence seizures have returned with a vengeance. I used to have them as a kid, but they mostly stopped when I hit my teens and started on benzos. Well, now they’re back! From my perspective they don’t bother me because unlike my other seizures I’m completely unaware they’re happening 😂! For me, noting has passed nd nothing has happened. From your perspective? People tell me I look zoned out and stare into space; sometimes I blink. That’s it; it’s pretty unimpressive compared to my tonic-clonic seizures tbh 😂! I’m telling y’all about this because those of you who have socially distanced visits in the garden or who regularly video call may see one (I mean, you may have already but we’re too polite too say, I wouldn’t know 😂🤷🏻♀️). Some tips! - don’t panic! I’m fine, seriously. - don’t yell or try to shake me; I’m unaware of my surroundings and yelling won’t bring me round... but it will confuse and upset me when I come to! - be patient; understand that for me, no time has passed. Explain what I’ve missed. Pause the film (looking at you mum and dad) 😂! My dad has an excellent way of letting me know I’ve had an absence and “checked out” without making a drama; he just says “aaaand she’s back in the room!” 😂👍🏻 and the I can ask how long I was out of it and what I’ve missed; I recommend this as the way to tell me I’ve been missing in action. #andyourbackintheroom #absenceseizures #livingwithepilepsy https://www.instagram.com/p/CCZjrK_jvHl/?igshid=1pxb43abc7c86
