Andromache the Scythian
Prompt: “How long was I asleep?”
Andy was not the kind of person to get a full 8 hours of sleep, most of the time, she’d get a maximum of 3 maybe 4 hours and that would be it for her. She found comfort in ensuring her family-like team was safe while they rest and regain the energy that they’ve lost from fighting. As immortals, it won’t take long, but what else can you do after living for centuries? It was a behavior Andy was so used to, she didn’t realize her lack of immortality and sleep was something that could take a toll on her.
The team was on their way to London to save girls who are victims of human-trafficking. Thanks to the comfort of Copley’s private plane, the gang couldn’t resist falling asleep and relaxing into the soft cushions of the plane’s seats. Joe and Nicky were sleeping soundly beside each other at the end of the plane. Booker was across Nile a few rows, near the front. In the middle, was Andy and (name).
Since (name) joined, Andy felt different towards her. Not in a negative way. It was an uncomfortable feeling, but there was a sense of familiarity. After Quyhn, she didn’t want to go through that again. and while Nile was able to restore Andy’s faith in humanity and find her purpose, Andy was having difficulty letting in the feelings she knew were there.
“You should get some sleep while you can” Andy says breaking the silence between the two of them in hopes she could resist the comfort of the plane, and therefore falling asleep. (Name) was going through papers and reports about their mission. Like the rest of the team, this was the bigger purpose they’ve been searching for their whole life. However, what differentiated them from the others, was that this whole immortality thing was no curse for them. It was their way of serving the people, in hopes that one day, the world could become ideal. But (name) was no superhero, they knew that. They’re hitting 2 birds with 1 stone. Helping the world was their personal take on redemption.
“Says you?-” they laughed lightly, “between the two of us Andy, it’s you who should be getting sleep. I think I’ve slept enough before leaving.” They reply pausing, and looking up at Andy across the aisle. “I think, I’d rather help you with that. We need to come up with a plan anyway.” Andy says hesitantly. As much as she wants to work as distant as possible from (name), afraid of harboring any more feelings for the person, they were still a team, and as their leader, she can’t let her feelings get in the way of anything. She did it with Quyhn, how difficult could it be now?
Hesitantly, Andy moves to sit beside (name), making sure that they wouldn’t be so close before proceeding to go through the papers, making notes and planning for the team’s move.
(Name) never understood as to why Andy was so distant to them. It’s quite difficult for (name) to keep their emotions in check, being an expressive person and all. They’re not so dense as to not notice how cold Andy was to them, and so, they kind of just distanced themself and only interacted when needed. They did have great chemistry, something only the other four were able to see. Andy wasn’t completely dense about this either, infact, she would notice the smallest thing about them, and as much as she hated how cold they were to each other, she thought this is how things should be.
“Hey, take a look at this, I think this guy is-” (Name) stops when they notice that Andy has fallen asleep. They put the papers down, making a mental note to share the information later. Tidying up a bit, they lean back, and realize that they were a bit tired. (Name) turns their head towards Andy and observe her. She was strong, but at the same time, she could be so gentle and soft. She looked so at peace, and she rarely got rest. They decided to let her catch up on sleep. (Name) will never understand why Andy was the way she was with them, but if being civil and a teammate was the best they could get with her, they’d take it. Better than nothing at all. Sighing, they knew what they were feeling wouldn’t get anywhere. Defeated, (Name) decides to continue going through the papers. It didn’t take long for them to fall asleep either.
(Name)’s eyes fluttered open, their senses coming back to them. Nicky’s face blocking the harsh ceiling light from blinding them. “5 hours till we land, figured you might be a bit hungry” Nicky says giving them the food the flight attendant must have left. “Thanks.” Nicky gives a small smile before turning to go back to his seat with Joe. (Name) turns to check on Andy, a little surprised the warrior was still soundly asleep. After making sure that Andy wouldn’t fall off the chair, while she’s asleep, (name) stands up and covers her with a blanket, before moving to freshen up in the lavatory.
(Name) was eating while they goes through the papers once again, going through the ones they haven’t gone through yet. (Name) was swallowing their last fork of pasta just as Nile was about to wake Andy. Their hand shoots out to stop Nile from waking her up. “It’s okay. She needs the sleep” At this moment, Andy moves closer to them, looking for warmth. This causes (Name) to freeze. This never happened before. They were always away from each other, but their secret feelings are not so hidden when they were unconscious. It was no surprise to the rest of the team. They knew how both parties felt for each other and it was always so frustrating that only the two of them couldn’t see it. It annoyed the hell out of Booker. All he wanted to do was tie them together till they admit it.
Softly clearing their throat, afraid to wake the scythian, she regains her composure. “I’ll wake her before we land”
“1 hour till we land guys” Nile informs everyone. “We should get ready” Booker replies and they all move to follow the order.
“How long was I asleep?!” Andy exclaims sitting up right away, her brows furrowing at the blanket that was not there before. Booker chuckles. “About 8 hours” he replies handing her food. she didn’t fail to notice that they were all dressed, almost ready to go. “You should eat quickly boss, we’re about to land” Joe adds just as the pilot announces their descent will be in 20 minutes. “Where’s (name)?” she couldn’t help but ask after seeing that their spot was empty.
They hesitated going out of the small cubicle after hearing Andy’s exclamation. They weren’t sure how she’d react letting her sleep that long. “They didn’t want anyone to wake you boss.” As much as Andy didn’t like sleeping in, she was grateful (name) let her. Losing her immortality was something she needed to adjust to, again. And thanks to (name) not only did she feel well-rested, but warm as well.
Hesitating to exit the lavatory, dressed and well prepared for their mission, (name) knew they couldn’t avoid Andy. Letting out a deep breath, they unlock the lavatory door and open it, surprised to see Andy leaning against the plane walls, clothes in hand. Immediately, they avoid eye-contact, moving to go back to their seat as quickly as possible.
“Hey,-” clearly, things are not going according to their plan. (name) stops in their tracks and turns around to face her. “Thank you.” was all Andy says, holding the eye-contact before moving to change quickly for their mission. It was simple, short, not much, but it gave them a feeling that something changed between them. Both know it. It’ll just have to wait till this mission is over.
