Dance like in the ’70s is the theme for Aneeth Arora’s Pero which launched Lakme’s Fall Winter 2020 collection, D I S C O 2020.
The collection was launched digitally taking inspiration from disco, which dominated urban nightlife in the 1970s, nearly half a century ago.

péro, meaning “to wear” in marwari, was created in 2009 by aneeth arora. “péro’ interprets international aesthetic using local material and skills and takes inspiration from the designer’s surroundings to create a product that connects with people across the world. “the indianness of péro rests in the textile process where materials and techniques have been passed down generations from one craftsperson to the other, thereby carrying forward the indian tradition of handmade textiles and creating pieces that are at once unique,” said arora about her line.
arora started péro with only herself, a runner and a tailor in a room in her home after graduating with a degree in textiles from the national institute of design in ahmedabad and another in fashion from the national institute of fashion technology.
she went on to win vogue india’s first fashion fund award in 2012.
each piece in her collection has intricate and beautiful details such as beading, unique petite buttons and embroidery. arora takes these elements seriously and prefers to be called a textile and dress maker instead of fashion designer. she now employs over 80 artisans in new delhi to create péro which is sold in fifteen countries.
péro is inspired by the everyday woman to create pieces that are easy while still having great style. “The look is not about an age group or season; it is about a mindset, a willingness to incorporate the effortless style of local people in ones attire,” said arora.
