I was with one of my co-workers. We were going to a place that looked like a church but wasn’t a church Like it was an Institute. It was surrounded by fields of grass with bright blue sky’s. There were people strewn about, couples here and there. It was like we were shadow hunters (if you know the Cassandra Clare books then you know what I’m talking about) in our home land.
It was like a forbidden love him and I. But it was also a secret not just to us but to me because he didn’t even know the way that I felt for him.
Or so I thought.
As we were walking and talking about everything and anything he stopped me and just looked into my eyes. He had the most beautiful eyes that I loved. I looked into them. There was something there that I hadn’t noticed before and I always looked at those eyes even when he wasn’t paying attention. He slid his hand onto my cheek. It was warm, soft but slightly callused as a result of training and fighting. I didn’t notice how close we were until his lips were on mine.
And that’s when I knew. The feeling was mutual. He was my guy.
We made it to the Institute. Inside, it was pristine. The floors were white and spotless, the walls were painted a deep red, and the room we stepped into was huge with high ceilings. There were paintings on the walls and priceless artifacts in glass cases here and there. And it was all familiar to us like we’ve been there thousands of times. It was home.
We ended up in one of the back offices where the head of the institute was. Something was really off. I felt it and so did he. That’s when the Head of the Institute walked up to us and wanted us to follow him. He leads us to a set of stairs that weren’t lit besides the light that was coming from his hand.
It was like the we were climbing for a long time until we reached an opening that lead to a long metal catwalk. I thought maybe he needed help with something for why he would bring us up so high. Halfway through walking on the catwalk I see the Head pull out a very sharp axe. He was a quarter of the way to the other door. When I looked at the door it wasn’t another stairway it looked like a forest, but there wasn’t a forest in the institute. At first I thought he was going to turn around to fight us when he took off and ran to the door. When he turned around, he had a menacing look on his face and started hacking away at the catwalk. We started to run towards the door when we realized what he was doing. But it was too late. He started swinging at the catwalk and jarred it so much that we lost our balance. I fell onto the catwalk but my guy fell and was clinging to the edge of it. I tried crawl to him, but it was too late. In two more hits with his axe were falling.
Next thing I know is that I’m waking up on the floor on my stomach with a major headache, confused, and covered in blood. I slowly start to get up looking for the source of all the blood. There’s a gash in my arm with a piece of metal sticking out from the catwalk. Coming out of my confusion I remember I wasn’t alone on the catwalk. There was the Head of the Institute, who has disappeared through a portal, me, and my guy.
My heart drops as I realized the he wasn’t next to me and I fear the worse that the Head was successful in his planning.
I scanned the mess of the catwalk to see if there were any bodies. His body. But there was just metal everywhere. That’s when I heard the groan to my right a few feet away. I am on my feet running to him as fast as I can. As soon as I reach him he is on his feet looking for me. There was a cut in his eyebrow where blood was slowly running down the side of his and his hands were bloody from cuts, my guess, was from trying to hang on. I look into his eyes to make sure that he is okay.
We stand there just staring at each other. Relief rolls over me. We are okay. He is okay
