"I-I'd s-s-save St-Stanley." Dmitri mutters, wrapping his arms around himself. It's been years, but thinking of Stanley still causes guilt to rise up in the pit of his stomach. Even though he couldn't have saved him from the monstrous woman had been stronger and faster than him in any way. What if he had tried just a bit harder?

“¿Disculpe?” The demoness scoffed, the audacity of him rejecting her gift offended her. Stepping forward as he stepped back, she placed a hoof on the man’s head, threatening to crush his head in if she came any closer. “Correct me if I’m wrong but you did say you didn’t want to starve. Even pleading to me that you would do anything to have some meat.”   She leaned her weight forward, making the guy scream even louder. “If you can’t give me anything, give me the reassurance that my children’s work of getting this pig isn’t going to waste.”

The 'Von' that the people of Lichtell carry in their surnames means that they (or nowadays, their ancestors) seized, conquered or live near a certain place.

Their planet is seperated into multiple thousands of sections (kind of like countries), and each of them have names, like for example Cannes, which is a very wild but fruitful stretch of land that Maelle's ancestors conquered.

Since Maelle still has Von Cannes in her name, it means her family tree never moved from it and defended it against other folks. It's a symbol of power if your last name is still exactly like the name of your location, because it means your family managed to keep it safe over the years.

The Von Sales, Von Vos (Hank) and Von Reva (Easter and Annie) families wandered over the years, so their surnames changed. 

Vos, Sales and Reva are broken down versions of the actual places. Their ancestors either traded or lost parts of their land.

Diamongal is more of a mishmash of names, meaning Dmitri's ancestors were often defeated by stronger families and thus had been forced to change their name.

Some lesser known characters, for reference.

Ryan Von Sales - Jon’s older brother. He’s an asshole, and not-so-secretly the shame of the family. Their grandparents take great pride in him though, since they’re not any better. His eyes are green and he has telepathetic powers. 

Easter Von Reva - a doctor from Lichtell, who looked in several times to try and study Dmitri because of his mutation. Several people prevented her from doing so, though, which she’s pretty miffied about. Her eyes are blood red and she’s cold, but not unkind towards humans.

Reyes Spencer - Bradley’s little sibling. Uses they/he pronouns. Bradley’s mother married (not remarried, since his mom and dad never actually married) someone else, a nicer man. 

Annemeike Von Reva - a so far unmentioned character. Befriended Stellan when she’s got him out of a hairy situation once. She’s the complete opposite of Easter, a pendler in a self built spaceship that also delivers packages here and there. Her eyes are gray and she’s rather happy with her life, despite her younger sister’s disapproval of her job.

neither jonathan nor dmitri celebrate pride, because on their planet, prejudice against a certain sexuality or gender identity doesnt exist (also pansexuality/polyamory is -very- common amongst the people) 

jonathan has heard things about the history of lgbtq+s of earth, however and is there to support and advise anyone who might be questioning 

while dmitri has no idea what exactly is going on but is excited to aid his human friends in whatever they’re being proud of
