Angelo Campos and Tales of Favella
Angelo Campos grew up in Villa Cruzeiro, one of the most notorious favelas of Rio de Janeiro. He has uses art to create dialogue in conflict areas and show youngsters an alternative to a live of violence. His murals can be seen in Philadelphia, Miami and now the Netherlands.
We are lucky to have an opportunity to host Angelo in collaboration with Prince Claus Fund and KADE Kunsthallen “Soft Power” exposition. Whilst “Soft Power” is travelling along the Dutch coast, Street Art Museum Amsterdam took the opportunity to bring Angelo’s art and tales to the residents of Amsterdam.
Below is an image of SUSTAINABILITY - new artwork painted in order to highlight NOM apartment - Zero on the Meter - on request of Stadsdeel West. So we asked Angelo to share a series of his works with us and take the opportunity to explore his story further.
OUTFLOW, the exposition we are hosting with Angelo, describes both the beauty but also the pain of life in the favela. OUTFLOW paints the recent world cup, olympic games, ecology and current Brazilian politics from the perspective of the favela and transforms it's layers of complexity into powerful visual narratives.
On Sunday, 19th June 2016, after an inaguration of the artwork for Street Art Museum Amsterdam and Stadsdeel West at 12:15 - 13:00, we shall open the OUTFLOW expo with a Brazilian Music and BBQ at SAMA HQ Gallery: I. Kanthof 1, 1064 VR Amsterdam.
